How to tell a CD3 from a CD3.5?

Hi all,

I am looking at a secondhand CD3 that has been upgraded to a CD 3.5. The back panel says CD3. but has the sockets for an external power supply.

I understood that the ability to use an external power supply was the main difference between the CD3 and CD3.5

What would be a reasonable price for a CD3 upgrades to a CD3.5, cosmetically it has a scratch on the front plate, but otherwise looks in very good condition.

My CD3.5 is labelled CD3, but it is a 3.5 bought new by me.
Apart from the external PSU connection, the main visible difference is in the CD drawer - the slot that the laser runs along is curved on a 3 and straight on a 3.5. (Somebody should confirm that though because mine's got its transport bolt in at the moment so I can't open it to double-check!)

Scarey Dog, check with naim that they even carried out this modification.

Sounds like a heath robins to me. More over the lens might well be the original which sits on a curved track, if so then it hasn't been upgraded to CD3.5

Its important to check, you don't want to throw good money at a modded bit of kit, especially if its a home jobby.

The other difference between CD3 and 3.5 as I remember is the internals are quite different.
