Yep. But apparently, it was way over his head.
Naim has a strong following and I see why.
I just wanted to see what the perception of other gear amongst Naim users.

I think AN is very good but only in a dedicated AN system.Cables are more important than NAIM .They like only their high capacity AN cable only. There was a huge disappointment with 2a3 amp with my 100dB Fostex Jericho horn. But the cheap AN kit4 is excellent with Jericho!.
My NAP 160 is better i think Wink

Am I the only one who doesn't like the sound of Bryston/PMC?

MF
I heard a MF A3.2 system which sounded ........ , I just wanted to get out of the house, but I didn't want to hurt the owner's feeling.
That was not a very nice experience.

On the other hand, I heard a Cello system(with a Watt spk!), it is a very "round" combo, I believe, but the speed, dynamic os the system was impressive too! great stuff!

PRaT is good, I think it is essential in a HiFi system, that's why I love my naim combo. I just hope my system will has PRat as well as some great characteristics of "round", such as image, soundstage......hope this won't make me a triator of the naim family

I'm not sure why some folks seem to think that Naim gear does not have "round earth" qualities (although admittedly I'm not familiar with older Naim gear). I recently purchased a 282/HC/250.2 and am quite happy with the depth, imaging, etc. that they have. No, they aren't going to make someone who loves what good SETs do best switch, but they certainly are competitive with other good SS and many tube makes in this regard.

Earlier in this thread (or maybe in another thread) someone mentioned that this perception may have something to do with Naim speakers (and similar brands) and how they are often used. Haven't tried Naim speakers or Neats and whatnot, but I'm guessing that if I pushed my speakers against the wall I'd lose the round earth qualities too (and, with my speakers and in my room, make a mess of the bass).

Do others think that it is mostly speakers/speaker positioning, or is the new gear that much different from the old?

Regards,

Chris

More Zen philosophy.

The worst amp is a broken amp.
