I know I should know this but the brain has refused to comply.

In the real world 'kilo' is 10^3, 'mega' is 10^6 and 'giga' is 10^9.
In the computer world 'kilo' is 2^10, 'mega' is 2^20 and 'giga' is 2^30.

What comes after 'giga' (10^12 or 2^40)?

If I recall correctly, in the world of IT storage the hierarchy goes:
megabyte (MB)
gigabyte (GB) = 1000 x MB
terabyte (TB) = 1000 x GB etc
petabyte
exabyte
zettabyte
yottabyte
The It industry has seen a few deals where customers have purchased a petabyte of storage capacity but I'm not aware of any exabyte + deals. I'm sure they're saving those for the next generation iPOD.
cheers
Ross
PS - I found the following information to give some idea of scale:
terabyte: All the X-rays in a large hospital
petabyte: Half the contents of all U.S. academic research libraries
exabyte: Five exabytes: All the words people have ever spoken
zettabyte: As much information as there are grains of sand on all the world’s beaches
yottabyte: As much information as there are atoms in 7,000 human bodies

I fear this imitative behaviour is going to produce a serious backlash against Fritz one of these days.

I think we should have a Berlin Fritz day and everyone on the forum should post in his inimitable fashion as a gesture of his great affection by most of us on this site.
Of course only if Fritzy doesn't think we're infringing on his intellectual copyright.

What shall we call it?

Instead of instituting a day for members to post in Fritz's style, why dont we just have Adam randomly shuffle the replies to threads?
So, for instance, I post a reply to a thread about turntables but its appended to a thread about the ban on fox hunting.
Wouldn't the confusion be a fitting tribute to Fritz?
