The Genius of Mozart

I'm suprised nobody's posted about this before. I thought it was wonderful. I'm normally not too happy with drama-docs as I find they fall between two stools but for some reason I thought this worked really well. I quickly found the "interviews" with his family and friends quite convincing, and especially found the pseudo-home movies very touching. Even though it was hardly a surprise I was very moved at the end. I think we have also found a star in Charles Hazlewood who spoke with a quiet authority and enthusiasm without in any way being either arrogant or patronising. A bit like David Attenborough.
Nice to see there are still folk in the Beeb who remember what it's all about and can still come up with the goods now and again.

I enjoyed the program as well - my previous knowledge of Mozart was from the film Amadeus which now appears to be suffering from quite a degree of authors license <g>

My only other Mozart knowledge is walking past his house in Domgasse each day on my way to and from the office for several weeks -

I cannot see how any of the room windows would see any trees as the tv show had it as the house is in the middle of the city.

I thought it was an excellent series.

As Derek pointed out the film Amadeus did display a level of poetic licence.

For me the comments of the music critics saying he music was too complicated with too many notes, was proof that genius is not always recognised at the time.

His mastery of all musical forms for me proves that he was the greatest composer.
