NBLs vs CDS3

Posted by: Camlan on 26 March 2004

Current system:
CDX2
XPS2
Active 250
Roksan Xerxes
SBL

Gentlemen

Do I go active NBL (i.e snaxo 3 - 6 and another 250) - result more bass and improves the Xerxes as well as the CD player or do I stick with what I have on the amp/speaker front and upgrade the front end. What is driving this is a certain bass lightness on CDX2/XPS2 vs Xerxes.

Comments please

I had very similar system CDi with active 250 SBLs.

I went for NAP 500
NBLs
552

The 500 is the best investment or a 300 if you can't stretch that far. The NBLs are superb 25Hz bass response and they will demonstrate what your CD player can really do.

I found out that by going to better amp was the biggest improvement followed by the speakers. 552 was least VFM.

Camlan, what is your preamp?

Are the 250's 'Olive' or 'Reference'(Mk2)?

What's the support system?

Pre amp is 252. 250s are olive

Support is Soundstyle racking. A very nice looking green heavy glass rack. For aesthetic (wife) reasons, I will not be allowed to change this. Had considered Fraim but she don't like it!

dedicated mains to be installed in next month.

Camlan,

It depends on your listening preferences. If you listen to the Xerxes more then go for the NBL's. If CD's are your preference then go for the CDS3!

One more question, what arm and cartridge are you using with the Xerxes?
