F*****G carphone Warehouse
Posted by: syd on 15 March 2004
Over the last 4 days I've had 3 calls from the Carphone Warehouse call centre in Glasgow, advising me that they can save me a fortune on my BT house phone bills. First time(friday) I explained to them that I hadn't been a BT customer for a couple of years as I had moved to Telewest. Second time (Saturday) I again explained the above, but the last call (about ten minutes ago)I lost the Rag with the young lassie. I think I read before on the forum about a site that you can insert your details which is sent out to call centres etc. demanding that you be to be removed from their databases. Anyone point me in the right direction as I'm getting pissed of with Cold Calling for Phones, Power, Double Glazing, insurance, loans etc. It's a real PITA.

One trick is to tell the double-glazing, kitchen, satellite TV salesperson that you are in rented accomodation.
If they are not put-off by that and ask for the number of your landlord/landlady then just say no.
Saying you're in rented accomodation can mean that they strike you off their cold-calling list.

I find the phrase "Undischarged Bankrupt" works well.

Or say 'that is very interesting, hang on a minute there is someone at the door' , then just leave the phone off the hook for 10 minutes. This wastes their time, costs them money, and helps f*** their targets.

I've got a police whistle and at times I've been seriously tempted to give them a blast, but I also realise that it's not the actual callers fault but the F*****G companies they work for. Also it might be seen as a wee bit dangerous.

My wife once stayed with a Baptist Minister and his family in the States.
His way of getting rid of unwanted callers was to say
"I'm so glad you called. Allow me to spend a few minutes of your time talking about Jesus......."
Never failed to send them packing

A mate used to have a painting of Satan in his hall for Mormons/Jehovas Witlesses etc. They didn't stay around for long.

Just ask them for their home number so that you can call them back at a more convenient time. Thay may respond by saying they do not want to be bothered at home. QED

Just a short update to say that I registered at the site and within a week unsolicited phonecalls have disappeared. I used to get about a dozen or so a week and I've had none now for over a week, also those annoying messages on the answer phone( caused by auto dial up systems) have also disappeared. RESULT.

Thanks to all for the advice.

I can confirm after about 18 months registering on the TPS, After the first 2 weeks, I have not had one pesky style call. Not one! I used to get several a night.
It really does work!

Last week we received a few calls from, so the callers claimed, T-Mobile. I'd hazard a guess that the callers were Indians in India. I questioned them on who they worked for and told them that they were breaking the law phoning me as I use the TPS. Silence. Then some gobbledygook. Phone placed on receiver.
I suppose some companies could get around the TPS thing by using call centres abroad. If so they can expect some mail from me.
