cdx2 questions
Posted by: scottyhammer on 21 March 2004
hi again,
following up on my previous thread "beam me up scotty". noticed the cdx2 can play hdcd,s . is it worth buying a hdcd to try it as i havent got any as ive come over from a cdx ? and how do these hdcd discs compare to ordinary cds???
secondly if the puck does end up inside the machine how should you go about gatting it out?
should you tilt and gently shake it out or is it best to unscrew the retainig bolts and ease the sleeve out??? will it do any harm by the tilt n shake method so to speak??
thanks for your input, regards, scotty

HI,
Re the puck I would get my dealer to get it out for me - (so to speak

).
Re HDCD's, I have a few of these and they certainly do sound rather good - better detail etc and bass. (I have Paul Simons Your the one and Knopflers Ragpickers - they are both good IMO).
the below is a link to the HDCD website, although their list is not uptodate.

I thought I didn't have any HDCD's until I got my CDX2, then I noticed a few CD's that I already had lighting up the little HDCD logo, confirming that they were the said beast.
To be honest, I reckon it all depends on how well produced the CD is in the first place. As we all know, some CD's sound great, some not so great.
Just because a CD is an HDCD doesn't mean that it will sound better.........
Regarding the puck, I wouldn't recommend the "shake it out" method; on my CD3.5 I removed the sleeve;- you never know exactly where the puck is sitting and what damage it might do by shaking it.........
Computers are supposed to work on 1's and 0's - in other words "Yes" or "No" - why does mine frequently say "Maybe"?......

no cos as far as i know i havent got a single hdcd disc in my large collection. didnt even know it existed till i got the cdx2 home n read the manual
so of course then it got me thinking i should buy just one hdcd to see if its any good.

Hi Scotty,
Just received my CDX2 (and Hicap2) last wednesday and was shocked to hear my 'Chet Atkins and Tommy Emmanuel CD - The day finger pickers took over the world'. I never knew it was a HDCD. First the display flashed HDCD which surprized me and then the sound this CD produced was amazing. It happened to be one of my reference CD's and it floored me.
To confirm what Blythe mentioned, played another HDCD that i have 'Metroland (Sound track) - Mark Knopfler' and the result was not as great at the previous CD.
Hope this helps.
Regards,
Stan
