Naim Newbie Advice
Posted by: tubelistener on 26 March 2004
I am looking to add a solid state integrated amp to my current system (Cary 300sei, ProAc Response 1sc and Arcam Alpha 8 cd player) so that I can have a "plug and play" option in addition to my beloved tubes. I auditioned the Nait 5i and I loved it. Before I arrange a home demo, I wanted to solicit some advice regarding compatibility with my ProAc speakers. Has anyone tried this combo before? Also would it be useful to trade in my cd player for the CD5? Thanks in advance.

Hi Mr tubelistener,
I have the same Proacs, and have been using them with a 62/hicap/110 setup (just a modest step up the ladder from the integrated units). The Proacs seem to be a pretty easy load and I would think that all the Naim amps would drive them nicely...
I have never done a direct play-off between the Arcam and the CD5, but I am sure you'd be very pleased with the change !
hope this helps

Trade your Arcam for a CD 5 as you go to buy the Nait 5i .The CD 5 is very good indeed
