Fleetwood Mac Stuff

Two things:-

1. A reminder that 'Rumours' - 'Fleetwood Mac' and 'Tusk' have just been re-issued in properly remastered form, with additional tracks/studio out-takes.

FM site here.

2. I dug out the latest album 'Say You Will' for another listen. Loads of good tracks, but I reckon the recording and production is utter shite. Shut-in, compressed and dull.

Lindsey Buckingham produced it, as he did his solo album 'Out Of The Cradle' (1992) which is superbly recorded and produced.

Strange.

Anyone else with 'Say You Will' care to comment?

P.S. I was convinced that my original USA copy was faulty, so bought an EU produced copy as well. They both sound crap.

'Say you will' is a very good album, it is however a bit long and if 3 or 4 of the weaker tracks were removed it would benefit I think.

As for production, The first time I heard the album, I played it directly after Roxy Music's Avalon and the differance was astounding, as you say a bit flat and lifeless. However once the shock is over I find I really enjoy the album, the production is good enough to be able to hear what's going on, pick out instruments (if you want to!!), it's just not very round earth.

JN,

Agree with you totally, songs are great, but the production sounds too polish, too clean and digital. And the drums sound is miles behind Rumours.

I'm just back from the record shop myself with the new Rumours reissue and the Dance.

Rumours is a revelation as far as I am concerned. Clean clear and hugely dynamic. Frankly, it's better than my Simply Vinyl pressing (on a P3, in any event, which used to be worlds better than my bog standard Rumours cd). The reissue can be a bit "hot" if you aren't carefull with the volume control. But the depth is really superb.

But forget that part of it - What great FUCCCCCCCKING music this Rumours album is. Every tune on the album is tremendously engaging.

In any event, I don't know what to make of the bonus disk. I guess its important if for no other reason than one sees a bit better why they went with the arrangements they actually did on the album. Generally, I find the roughs and outtakes uninteresting, though I quite like the "Brushes" (Never Going Back Again) pretty cool.

For what its worth, I think "The Dance" is SHITE. Uninspired live album, not nearly as interesting as the first "live" double LP (I think the cd might be a single, not sure) nor were the arrangements as interesting as I remember them in concert from my youth.

Anyway, hope you all enjoy the new reissue. It's worth having.
