American Secretary of State

One year later and I think I may have been right. Surely with Bush making a hash of his second term, this is the way the Republicans have to go?

I think the US is too conservative a nation - Rice as prezz would be 2 massive breakthru's in one go - not feasible IMHO.
I think Colin Powell will get in before Condoleeza as the first black president, but that's just my take on things and I'm usually wrong so hey ho and all that.

You could be right, Rasher. I've also made that prediction in the past.
I think it's too early to say. We've only really seen 'clever' and 'cutesy' so far. Does she have the personal power? I haven't seen her angry yet.

My partner thinks Condoleeza looks like Olive Oil. Could this explain the shit America has got itself into. If we accept this hypothesis then who is Popeye and what does he use for spinach?

Imagine the torture of being Ms Rice or Colin Powell and having to go back and explain themselves to the village idiot in words of one syllable? Loyalty to one's country can be just too demanding sometimes.
I bet nobody is allowed anywhere near Bush with a loaded gun. Just in case they hit any of the strings and he flops-over on live TV.
Nah! The Merkin press would just accept the batteries had died and wait for new ones to be fitted. Well, they wouldn't use rechargeables would they?

I forgot to ask, in what way, specifically, is he making a hash of his second term or are you just talking of the re-runs of his first term hashes that got him re-elected?

How stupid would you say Bush is? Could you give an example of a UK politician that he's about as dumb as?

John Prescott?
Posted on: 11 February 2005 by graham55
Prescott was promoted beyond his abilities when he stopped being a steward on Cunard (or was it P&O) ships. His performance on Radio4 Today yesterday would have been funny were it not so scary.
Condi Rice is very very dumb. Just ask Colin Powell.

It's not going to happen Rasher, sorry. Anyone who thinks otherwise is unaware of the deep-seated sexism, racism, and mistrust of academic/intellectual types among large swaths of the US electorate.
Maybe someday, with someone else, but not Rice.

Popularity will wane as the economy becomes more visible as an issue, as the dust (in the eyes of the pulic) settles on Iraq. He will inevitable have a try for Iran and North Korea but find himself pretty much alone this time. The US public won't back him again. The general election here will be on May 8th, so Blair will be looking to public opinion. I'm not even sure if Blair will make it to the end of the year and expect Brown will be PM by Christmas. Bush won't get any support for war there. Bush has big ideas but hasn't fully woken up to see his real situation.
We will see....
I don't think Hilary Clinton will be a likely first woman Pres after she collapsed last month - I know it isn't serious, but it looks bad.
It'll be Rice or Arnie for the Republicans and Hilary will do a Kerry.
Rice is now being taken very seriously. Colin Powell has been tainted by this administration and will be go down with Bush.
I'm only talking off the top of my head of course.........I just find it fascinating personally. Sad, I know.

It would take a change to the US constition for it to be Arnie, and that apparently takes several years.
Cheers,

Rasher, am I right in thinking that a US president can only serve two terms ? So,we wont see Bush again, but the depressing part is, the US administration will carry on the same Neo-conservative policies.
It is so obvious that Bush is a dim-witted cretin. However, this is quite deliberate. The image that 'an regular guy, just like us' can get elected is created to reassure the voters. The guys who really run the show, Rumsfeld, Wolfowitz et al are really nasty creeps but very smart, as anyone who watched the recently repeated 'Power of Nightmares' on BBC2 will have realised.

Ahh..yeah.. Forgot that particular point.

Yeah, Ah-Nold can't be elected Pres (thank GOD and our Constitution) but W's FLA Govenor brother Jeb can...
Hillary is too polarizing, the dems know they can't possibly win with her.
Condi is a great Sec of State for the Repubs, but she's the wrong gender and color for most of the Repub types.
Condi does have an oil tanker named after her though. That should be enough to frighten any rational voter away... But it's not unfortunately.
Of course if she gets us into war with Iran and N Korea then maybe she'll look "presidential"...
Colin would get wide support but his distaste for this kind of politics is well documented.
McCain would run well, he is no-nonsense and a real war hero.
I'm not going to hazard a guess for either party. If we elect Jeb then the US will become Bushland and they'll have to crown him...
HELP!!!

Call me naive, but I refuse to believe this could be the case in the 21st century.

I agree with "should" but I'm afraid it is "could".

If there ever was a woman or a black person to run for the presidency then Rice is the one. I suspect that what the American political system don´t want is a revolutionary type of politician who tries to play victivism with the racial/gendre card, sort of "impart racial and gendre justice" whatever that means.
Rice is not suspect of that, as it isn´t Colin Powell himself. Thats why they are where they are.
And now the controversial point: IMO This is how it should be.
