Welfare Of A Child

Posted by: DAVOhorn on 28 June 2004

I was working in my local health centre today.

A smartly dressed young mother with a very young baby also nicely attired turned up.

Anyway the mother presented the milk tokens for the free milk for the baby.

The milk tokens were not Kosher.

The reason i do not know, suffice to say thety were not going to be exchanged for milk.

Many sell the milk and milk tokens to pay for tobacco alcohol drugs etc, so my colleague is vigilant in this matter. If the milk tokens are not valid for whatever reason NO MILK>

Anyway the mother loses it and starts accusing my colleague of causing her baby to starve.

"What is my baby going to eat?"

A tin of baby milk powder is approx £6.00 the cost of 1.5 packets of fags or a couple of bottles of alcohol.

A pint of fresh milk is 40p approx.

Now who today who loved their child would not spend a little money on milk to feed their own child ?

I am judgemental in this , but is this the sort of person who should be a parent?

So what if the child has an allegy to milk but the mother needs all the help she can get, so sells off the tokens in order to give the baby an alternative?

Well that's not the way to do it.

Do you generally support benefit fraud?

What's DAVOhorn got to say about all this? Is he cow-ering somewhere?

The thread does seem to be drifting whey off topic.

I think the whole milk question is a little moo-t at this point
Posted on: 29 June 2004 by Rasher
No I don't support benefit fraud - my point originally was that we didn't know the full facts and so were not in a position to judge.
True - it is benefit fraud.

I'm in a quandairy. How can so many lefties be so pro stealing from the welfare state at the expense of babies?

Matthew will be lowing in his barn tonight. A blinding demonstration of double think and ovinity.

The fact that milk tokens that can only be exchanged for milk are available at all is a sad indictment of society. In a trustworthy world the benefits system would just adjust to a new child with cash. As it is we damage the self-esteem of the honest in order to try and protect the children of scumbags.

Let's hear the simple solution then Paul, the one where everyone gets what they need and no abuse of the system takes place. Who are the scumbags and how do you know their circumstances?

Milk tokens or cash?
Butter the devil you know I say.

I seem to have taken quite a bashing on this one.

Anyway Milk is usually provided for those who cant breast feed or are on benefits for a wide variety of reasons.

There may also be a problem with the child such that Milk is part of the plan for the child arranged by the health visitor.

There are very many reasons why milk is supplied.

In this instance the milk tokens were HOOKY .

The reason for this is not known.

IT WAS THE RESPONSE OF THE WOMAN TO MY COLLEAGUES STATEMENT THAT THE TOKENS WERE NOT VALID.

TOTALLY UNRESONABLE AND QUITE FRANKLY TOTALLY UNJUSTIFIED.

My colleague advised the woman to buy some milk today and keep the receipt and the health visitor would sort it out next working day. This would be checking the baby book and checking that the woman was the parent/guardian.

As i said 40p for a pint of milk is not too much to ask.

If the woman had come in looking like old reekie i would have used my personal prejudice and presumed the woman was at her wits end etcetc.

But no the woman looked NORMAL and well presented so why the confrontational attitude.

It was the UNREASONABLE CONDUCT that got me interested.

It has to be said that in my area drugs and benefit fraud are a major problem and the sale of welfare foods for drugs is also a problem.

So protecting the child from the parents lifestyle is a major battle for my Health Visitor Colleagues.

Scumbags are those stealing benefits intended for their children. I don't care about their circumstances.

I am assuming that clinics keep stocks of commerically produced baby milk products for exchange with 'tokens' for a good reason. Perhaps it's just to humiliate the poor?

Is it Politically Incorrect to remind us that just about every Council in UK enjoys extreme well documented financial and favours corruption, then they when caught leave, and the taxpayer cleans up, that's fucking mindblowing stealing from the poor, and not tother way round.

P.S Scotland has no such problems generally speaking, I wonder why ?

The problem with the evidence is, it's pasteurised before you see it.

I take it you're joking. Councillers in Scotland are just as corrupt as anywhere else.

Er, wrong.

"As i said 40p for a pint of milk is not too much to ask."

David

This has nothing to do with "door-step" cows' milk, it is about powdered infant formula feed (which is admittedly produced from cows' milk). As was mentioned earlier, babies should not be given door-step cows' milk at all.
Infant formula does not cost 40p, it is quite expensive.
