So is the Popit!/Mypop feature. It was working on and off. Now it's completely non-functional.

How true.
I have started a thread on the subject, but it just fizzled out. What I also find irritating is the fact that they are not addressing this question. It's as if nothing was going on.
This forum has, IMH relative newcomer's opinion, lost about 90 % of it's interest. The inconvenience of not being notified anymore was one thing, but not being able to search definitely makes no sense, when you know the wealth of information this forum contains. It defeats the purpose of such a tool. It has now become just a short-term/short-sighted chatter convenience, with none of the depth, richness and perspective it used to offer.
Come on, moderators, tell us if and when you plan to get this forum back into shape !
At the very least, tell us something ! We desperately need to hear from you on this matter ! We love this forum, and we would dearly like to have it back the way it was before !
Slightly hyperbolic, I'll admit, but just trying to get your attention !

You are correct - the present measures are a attempt to limit service and prevent our being pushed into a further commitment to a possibly expensive future with more of the same option.
However, Naim are primarily a hi-fi manufacturer and the task of finding and implementing an alternative forum host is not one to which we can leap as swiftly as you feel free to demand. We can continue with more of the same (hopefully improved but much more expensive), move to pastures new but untried - or drop the forum altogether. I favour the second option and am engaged in seeking a package that suits. However this is far from my greatest work priority. Any change will take a while and then some.

Thanks for your post. I am grateful for the forum and am impressed that Naim Audio pays out what I am sure is a not-inconsiderable sum of money to keep it going. I am amazed that you fit the moderation of the forum into your day. I have emailed two enquires about Naim equipment and you have personally replied to them both. I usually get no reply when I send an email enquiry to a manufacturer.
I will be staying as long as the forum exists and I am happy to tolerate some hiccups.
Thanks again.

We all know it can, and should be better but some facts are facts.....
1. The site is manufacturer hosted - not many take the effort to do that.
2. Look at the time Adam posts at - he should be in the pub !
3. Better forum or better products ?
4. The forum is superb and can only get better in time.
I doubt I would have bought Naim without the forum's existence.............

I'm sorry Adam, but I agree with Tom.

The statement has internal inconsistency. If the forum provided Naim with free market research it wouldn't need to pay for itself. I frankly doubt that Naim conducts market research by looking at forum posts.
The goodwill of existing customers might be affected by a reduced forum service but, as Adam has already noted, Naim is primarily a HiFi manufacturer. Their expenditure is best focused upon what they actually produce. That they have focused this expenditure so well is why they enjoy so much goodwill from their existing customers.
My Nait3 makes me happy because music is so important to me. The forum is a bonus.

I am sure I have said this before but given the state of the search function (tongue firmly planted in cheek) I will simply say...
we should all be extremely grateful that Naim hosts this forum irrespective of the failings apparent or otherwise of Infopop. No doubt a very considerable amount of time/cost is expended maintaining this forum although it is something most businesses would not even consider doing. We are very lucky. And if it benefits Naim, which I am sure that it does in an indirect manner, then everybody is better off for it. Keep up the good work Adam and all those at Naim HQ who are involved with forum - it is appreciated.

We would love to get the forum fixed (and it hasn't ever been to everyone's satisfaction) and let it run for another 10 years.
I need to have a meeting with 5 key people in Naim - 3 are out of the country. Next week two of them will be out of the country - the week after, etc. When we are all together - there will be other things to discuss and plan. I will push forum improvement as strongly as I can but not at the expense of any of our other commitments.
As customer support I do not entirely find the forum useful. Few problems are dealt with any quicker by being left exposed in postings - to be found some time later when a moderator comes across them and alerts me. A direct e-mail to me will get a direct and personal reply. However; there is a strong pool of good advice, interesting opinion and a useful sense of a Naim community. This can help to welcome the new owners - who may wonder about the hitherto unknown product they have just bought. A big thank you to those who help provide this welcome.

I take your point. It perhaps balances my leap to the defence of the forum. The forum is a community and the feelings of everybody who belongs need to be reflected in decisions.

Doing away with this forum will not do anyone any good.
John Watson of Mana Audio (for example) values his forum as a marketing tool a well as being a community for its members/existing or potential customers.
He's tightened up the moderating over there big time.
The fact that the place is rather quiet as a result is only a reflection of the fact that in comparison with Naim, his company is rather small.
The Naim-audio Forum is probably the busiest audio forum in existence with, I guess these days, over 7000 members.
Long may it live!
Vbulletin offer good VFM and are used by the likes of PFM and ZG, and the owners of both these fora haven't exactly got the resources of a company like Naim.
Regards,
Steve.

Dear Folks,
Getting back to what this string started with -- the search-engine question -- one way round the problem is to remember anyone who made a post to the particular string you're looking for, open that member's 'View recent posts' from any of her/his posts (even if not in the string you're looking for) and try to find your target from the listed results.
Hope this helps (-- it lets me keep touch with my own posts!).
Thanks and cheers.

The forum reflects a wide range of views - from the sweetly rose-tinted to the knee jerk sniping of the disaffected. We moderate as little as possible – probably most firmly, and famously, on those who advocate alterations to legally required safety measures (fuses).
This is a strange form of free party – but held in our house. A successful party welcomes a diversity of opinion and the odd, heated debate. However, it is in our house and we sometimes have a human reaction to “guests” who seem only able to say a negative word. Of late, Tom, many of your posts have manifested an uncharacteristic meanness of tone. I regret that.

Marketet research? In here? ROTF!
I was very surprised to find a Naim forum run by the company itself. It's going that bit extra which in retrospect is just the sort of service you can expect. So it's not perfect. Well, there are plenty of options out there for people who think the service in this hotel sucks - why hasn't anyone started their own forum? Vote with your feet. Put your money where your mouth is. That way you can have a Naim forum that you own a stake in. Unlike this one.
Cheers

I agree. We don't possess any "rights" to a forum like this. It's all for free, so it's all extra, so we should be thankful for that, and we are, and if we're not we can leave the party.
But we can have opinions. And we shouldn't be treated as children ("sorry, but the next few weeks everybody is out of the country") or behave like children ("Naim puts the customer first, so if they choose not to maintain the forum it must be for our own good").
I have a very good feeling about the fact that it's possible to communicate directly with Naim, by e-mail and, to a lesser extent, through the forum. But I'm a bit ambivalent about their latest reaction. Maybe it's that I can't imagine that this forum (i.e., the customers) doesn't generate money for Naim that makes me think it's reasonable for Naim to maintain it properly.
Best regards,
Martijn

hi,
My 2 cents worth as a new-ish member to this forum...
Running a forum such as this on a 'best endeavours basis, which is what Naim seem to be doing (quite reasonably in my view) will inevitably lead to some people complaining when other priorities leave the forum less than perfect. It is exactly like if you gave people free bus travel for a year, then some would complain when that year is over. This is neither a criticism of Naim nor the complainers - it is simply inevitable. I hope the administrators of this site are thick skinned enough to not feel too un-loved.
Their personal commitment to the forum is beyond doubt.
Secondly, one FACT I know for sure. Having this forum has encouraged ME to spend more money on MY Naim kit than if it did not exist. And to feel good about doing it. I don't know what the net effect is on Naims' bottom line but it DOES increase the level of sales and repeat (=satisfied) customers.

Hey Adam, send me the spec of what you are looking for and I'll see what I can find for you (the search bit would be free, although I can't guarantee finding a free service). You have my email address on the forum user details.

Harry, someone did leave and set up their own forum. Its called the Pink Fish Media forum {pfm}, although I risk having my post deleted just by mentioning it.

LOL! I made sure I read it quickly just in case! PFM is well known to me - my point was that with all the technical knowledge and obvious dissatifaction being voiced it should be a simple matter for someone to start up another Naim only forum. And putting on my devil's advocate hat - that would give the founder(s) ownership of the forum, something that doesn't exist here but sometimes you'd think otherwise!
Since this forum is run by a commercial organisation one has to consider the real posibility that at some stage the most obvious course of action for the owners will be to shut it down. That would be very sad but it's a valid choice. I think we're being spoilt here - I hope it continues.
Cheers

I will happily write a dedicated forum for you, People Of Naim, and support it in return for a 252/250.2. That's what I do for a living. Come on, how about it?
The beauty of this approach is that it can be tailored exactly to the needs both of Naim and of their customers, and can be made considerably 'lighter' (in bandwidth and processing requirement terms) due to the removal of unnecessary or unpopular functions.
Creating bespoke community software is not always the best option for every organisation, but the Naim forum deserves better than Infopop can offer IMHO. Likewise the competition (vBulletin, phpBB etc.)
A serious offer from a professional. PM if remotely interested.

Err..
Unfortunately you'd need a Supercap to go with your 252 and....well that's just just stretching things a bit too far, I think
