The instructions also contain the helpful advice that "positioning the loudspeakers behind curtains will affect the high frequency response" (!).

If you get bass boom, then they need to be further from the rear wall, the best distance being around 28inches.

I have heard SBLs make wonderful music but I'm not taken by their 80's look.Perhaps Naim might create the SBL2...
I think you may get some feedback on that concept.
No, I haven't done the comparison, as my room is not a good match for SBLs. There isn't a wall against which they can be closely placed. Although some people have claimed that you don't have to have them right against a wall, the first piece of advice offered to anyone with an SBL problem in this forum is: "Get them within 5mm of a solid wall" or similar.
I found the Dynaudios to be a great compromise between PRaT, decent bass extension, long term listenability, and domestic acceptability. Received wisdom is that you need at least a 250 to drive them properly, I think there was at least one person on the old forum who found that a 180 didn't cut it.

I did compare the Dynaudio 1.8 with my own SBL's after I decided the SBL's were lacking in scale and bass power.
You will find the thread in:

Hope this is helpful.
