Where to hear Orbe and Naim

Posted by: Richard P on 03 May 2004

Hi
Anybody know where to hear a Michell Orbe and Naim amps, preferably in the Home Counties/London?

Also, will an Orbe fit onto a Fraim glass shelf? (If the answer's No, please ignore the above question!)

I heard an orbe at my dealer's recently here in Los Angeles when I went to pick up my CDX2. It was really amazing, very smooth and detailed presentation. I know I'm going to have to have big bucks to upgrade my lowly Planar 3. It also had the Michell tone arm, don't know what cartridge tho a year ago he was oohing and aahing about a Koetsue (sp?) he'd loaded for a client. So maybe he got one for himself. The whole demonstration was with a 282 w/2hicaps and a 200 amp and Quad speakers. It was a really wonderful demonstration tho far too short.

IMHO a P9 or LP12 is better, so don't forget to listen to these too.

Hi Richard,

You are really wise to ask that question? As I bought the AVDI DIVA in March. i assume that it would fit nicely on the fraims, as I bought fraims the same time.

The answer is problem, DIVA is not with spike, but big trunky feet, plus motor. Having checked with Naim, they would not specially made a bigger size glass shelf, which I am quite upset to spend two and half grand for the racks!!! |They ask me to make myself my own glass shelf!

Having check with AVID, they have a new isolated platform, but not sure the feet will be sit nicely on the fraim glass.Still waiting for their reply.

So what should I do. The turntable is home and I am not able to listen to it.

Any suggestion, anyone? Should I just take the fraim galss to a glass shop and ask for a toughen glass with the same tinted colour? Is there any special about fraim's glass shelf?

cheers
Martin

Thanks for the replies.

Andrew
I already have an LP12, and am considering changing my 15 year old Ekos I to either an Ekos II or an Aro, or changing the turntable altogether, and I shall also be checking out the P9. I didn't want this to turn into a "which turntable is best" thread, interesting though that might be.
