Speaker positioning

I would appreciate some advice on the positioning of my SBL's. My room is about 12ft x 18ft and I would like to move the speakers from the short wall to the long wall. In the current position, they are against the wall and about 8 ft apart (and I sit about 10 ft in front of them), however if I move them to the long wall they will have to be either 6ft feet or 8 ft apart, but my listening distance will be reduced to about 7 ft. Any recommendations on the best set-up. I had heard that a equal sided triangle was about best.

I just moved the SBL's to the long wall and they've never sounded better. What have I been missing ? Getting them away from the corners was the best thing to do. They're now 8 ft apart and about 6ft from any side wall. The imaging and separation has increased ten fold. Spacing them any closer together I lose some separation..so looks like 8 feet is the sweet spot.

Guys, I also have some questions on speaker placement. I have my new Credos placed right up against the wall abt 4-5 ft apart and they sound great. Unfortunately, I have to place an Ikea TV console, short abt 1/2 height of the Credos between them. Will this rob me of the optimum sound? Should I pull the Credos apart further to give space between them and the edge of the TV cabinet?

Thanks in advance and again, sorry for the cross post smile

Mine are currently 6 foot apart.

Could other SBLs users possibly post their distance between them to see if there is an average/consensus. From experience I realise the best way is to experiment but I am hoping to angle grind a 12mm channel in the floor of the new house to hide my NACA5 and get it WAFed around the fireplace and wanted to get the placement right to save headache later

Thanks guys

When I had Credeos I personally found them much better away from the back wall a little and toed in, I don't know what the party line is on Credeos but thats what I prefered.

Chaps

My SBL's are 8ft apart when measured from tweater to tweater and I sit about 11ft away. They point straight out and are 5" out from the wall in order to bring them just out in front of a chimney breast. They sound good.

Mine are about 6ft apart on the long wall of a fairy narrow room, had no choice about this but they sound fine. I sit about 8 ft away.

The Credos I had before were the same but I thought needed 6 inches or so out from the wall. tried toe in but it seemed to go wrong with this.

Mine are 78" apart (tweeter centre to tweeter centre). There is a sodding great chmney breast between them, at 14" deep. The SBL's are not butt-ugly, although they are butted up against the back wall - bringing the cabs forward was not an aesthetic option in this room. nonetheless a forum visitor remarked yesterday that there (should I even admit this?) was a surprising amount of image there ( argggghhhh - bloody artifice in my flat earth room - now I lose all credibilty - I should have thrown him out for merely uttering those words!! big grin ) ...

due to space constraints I listen pinned to the back wall 113" away, or outside barbequing with the neighbours. The room is 159" wide and 127" deep, with a charming curved sun-trap window corner. There are no knitted/crocheted toilet-roll covers disguising round-earth tube-traps.

I can vouch for the sound being gut at Devs, despite an American turntable in operation. Health and Safety notices should be errected to warn potential theives, as the weight of that slate slab would arise in a personal injury claim should someone try to run off with it!

Rico - ok, the Kans are sorted, now whatabout the rainforests?

PS - mine no longer sound good, as the power amp has now vanished. frown I can confirm that a Sony ICF-SW7600G sounds rather good on Mana.
