Help with telly set-up

Posted by: Rasher on 06 May 2004

Yikes!!!
Things have got out of control and I need help in how to hook up the telly stuff.
I have a TV with 2 scart sockets
Sky+ with 2 scart sockets
DVD player with 2 scart sockets
DVD recorder with 2 scart sockets
VHS recorder with 2 scart sockets
AV amp which just gets a cable from the TV - but I'm not too bothered about that.
The VHS recorder is there to transfer my old tapes to DVD and will then get dumped - so that is a temporary measure only, and the DVD player I want to keep alongside the DVD recorder because it reads all formats and is really great quality - better at playing than the recorder, but I won't be copying from it - only Sky+ when the tapes are done.
Has anyone any ideas which is the best route to hook all these together?
Someone suggested a scart router box - but it is yet another unit & remote, and I can't stand anymore Frown

Three & a half weeks is really good. It must be too late to turn back now. How long have you previously managed?

I have a couple less boxes than you having just bought a DVD player. My TV is 13 years old, and has a scart but does not work properly when connected directly to Sky.
I had to do this set up. TV to Video, Video to DVD, DVD to Sky. My Naim amp is connected into the audio out of the video.
With this set up I can play every box through the Hi-Fi.. I wanted to put the DVD as the first link in the chain, but I could not get a picture from the video this way around.

I did mine by trial and error, how about your not connecting up the DVD player until you have recorded all your VHS onto DVD. This is easier will also give you an incentive to get the recording done quickly.

I have found that the audio output level on my DVD is much lower than the TV, video and the skybox, and there does not appear to be much scope to increase it. Is this normal? (It is a Pioneer 565A as recommended Blythe IN November .)

I think you are right there. With the VHS gone, it will probably need to be rearranged with the DVD recorder in that spot anyway.

Me too. Not sure if it can be sorted, but I am used to that now.
