CD writing, cover work and printable CD printers ?

Posted by: Steveandkate on 19 September 2004

As I assume many of us do, I make compilation CD's for the car or whatever, and am wondering about getting a printer that prints direct to CD's - anyone know if they are any good, especially with photos ?
Also, I use Nero 6, oem, and miss the crossfading facility that the full version has, but before I buy it, I hear that Roxio Easy CD does all this, but also has the ability to listen to effects, like crossfading, before recording, which Nero does not - any ideas or suggestions before I go shopping ?
The last thing is printing covers - I use, purely because it is what I have, Neato paper - it comes pre-serrated, so no need for a guilatine(spelling ?) - again, any suggestions about other brands ?
Any other ideas to help the end product look as good as I thing it sounds ?

Thanks !

Steve

Steve, download itunes you will be able to set interval times between tracks (Or none at all)

It will also print a collage CD insert of your mix CDs, (Collage comes from CD covers) with track names.

Job done.

Hi
The epson R200 printer is photo quality and prints directly to CD and I've seen it for £65.

Thanks so far, but...
Monkfish and Sean2 - tell me more - can you get glossy finish cds to print on, and do the results look say, as good as a printed photo ?
Maybe my question ought to be, is it worth buying a second printer just to print onto cd's, given that I can print sticky labels that look ok, but not as up-market as I would like ?
And why am I asking you a question that only I can really answer ?
Better go do some work..

I have an Epsom Photo R200 £75 or less if u Google

It produces really excellent results

You have to use printable cdrs which have a white printable surface - readily available
results are as good as a shopbought cd as long as your artwork is up to scratch.

It's not too expensive to run even though it has 6!!! cartridges

Get one here sign up for their club and you'll get regular free delivery offers it's a gr8 site for all consumables and of course they sell printable cdrs. They did have a trade counter at their Torquay hq which made a nice shopping trip out; sadly it's now closed.

Get the Epson don't even consider owt else.

Cheers Sean !
Past experience with an Epson, which when not used for a while had to be chucked due to the heads blocking up (with Canon printers I believe the heads are a part of the ink cartridge, but Epson used to, and maybe still do, have the heads built into the machine, so when they block up, you buy a new printer) so I think I will buy an i865. Wish it had been available when I bought my current Canon printer, only a year or so ago....
