Image reduction

Posted by: Tim Jones on 26 August 2004

This is driving me up the wall. I am a member of a very sad and lonely forum where we swap pictures of our pointlessly expensive racing bikes. I cannot take part at the momemnt because all my pics are too big (sniff, mope). Can anyone recommend a (free!) downloadable app for doing so?

Tim

go to www.pmview.com and download and install PMVIEW

Once it is installed you can open an image, use the Transform Size option to reduce it to whatever size you want (The MatRob demands a max of 600 pix on the longest dimension.)

Then you do a File - Save As - remember to add a suffix to the image name (so that you do not overwrite the original image) then in options change the quality percent to less than 70% and then Save the new mage.

In the bottom line of the image frame will be the size of the fie - repeat to get the size down by changing the quality of the image.

Any probs - please ask

PMVIEW will nag you for a subscripion after about 30 days.

Good luck

Derek

Another great utility is FotoKiss. It has a bent towards doing photos for ebay, but it's capable of handling more than that. And if it's ebay pictures that you're doing, there's nothing better.

I also use Easy Thumbnails. If you're happy with your picture (no adjustments, cropping, etc. needed), and you just need to make it smaller, then it's perfect. It's also free!
