Static Hiss?

Yesterday I put a record on and there was a lot of crackle and static noise, I have never had this before. I have tried a few records, all clean, so I am slightly perplexed as to how to solve the problem.
I recently put the OL structural mod on my rb250 (last wednesday), but it has sounded fine since then so I do not think that this is anything to do with the problem.
Any thoughts??
