Who has crowns - need advice

Well, yesterday I had a new set of pedals put on my new bike and I went outside to give them a spin at my local bike shop. The blacktop was wet and I wiped hard and ate asphalt. Scratched my left shifter/brake lever (not to bad) a few cuts and welts. The biggest hurt, though, is that I chipped the begusus out of one of my top front teeth. It have a huge horizontal crack about 1/3 of the way up the tooth, though, mercifully the bit has not broken off (despite some signifcant pushing by my dentist).
Anyway, he says it WILL break off - it is just a matter of time, and in any event the crack will stain and I will be back in his chair in no time for a crown. In fact, he says with the two front teeth two crowns is better than one because it is hard to match 100% to the other incisor. But matching to the other teeth is easy.
Anyway, does aybody here have a crown on thier front teeth. What is the "pain" and "yuk" factor of the procedure. How do you like the results, and what kind of material did you get?
