Larsson was obviously confused by the beautiful hair and overall prettiness of the Italian defence. You just don't see that level of quality in the SPL.

Yeah. Maybe all that hair gel melting and dripping onto the pitch caused his studs to slip?

Just a quick comment on the 'Disappointed in Beckham' threads ...
Of England's four goals thus far, Beckham has been involved in three.
1. Perfectly delivered free-kick for Lampard to score against France.
2. Superb crossfield ball onto Owen's chest for Rooney's 1st goal against Switzerland.
3. Brilliant hold up and perfectly weighted pass to Neville who crossed for Gerrard's goal against switzerland.
I hope he continues to play this badly. We'll win it.

As with the large statue of Frank in Riga celebrating his forefathers Oliwer Kahn is also of that extraction so I'm liiking forward to the commentary very soon. Either 10 - 0 massacre, or it'll be they played like Brazil in 1966 ? always some bollocks, innit.

As John Lennon would say "Well Well Well "
Think I'll stay in tonight, drink some Czech Bud, scoff some Gouda and stuff and watch a real game, the streets are Oh so very very quiet tonight, in sunny Berlin.

Piss: Great Ref Wunnee ?

At last, a football match that actually lives up to the hype!
What a great game, irrespective of the result.

One of the finest matches ever said the BBC panel. Totally justified. What a wonderful game.
I hope both teams progress to the knockout phase and possibly meet in the final.
On a partisan note if Baros and Smicer ever play like that for Liverpool then watch out !
regards

doh and I missed it. damn. I'll try and catch the repeat sometime tomorrow. I missed it because I went out to play football instead, just joined a team and the first time I've played for about 18 months, jeeze I was shit.

Thats part the reason I wanted Houllier out. Baros and Smicer have shown glimpses of what they are capable of, but never regularly for Liverpool, but I hear they do it regularly for the Czechs so Hopefully Senor Benitez can get the best out of them.

Now that's a game of footie.
Fantastic. I stayed in to watch it instead of going to the cinema with the rest of the family - good choice. Imagine what the score might have been if the keepers hadn't played so well!
I quite enjoyed the Lativa v Germany game as well, despite it being a 0-0 draw. Latvia were well organized, hard working and highly motivated - exactly what the Scotland team should be but aren't these days.

The Netherlands are in a severe shock. Advocaat is under fire, what the f#ck was he thinking when he substituted Robben?! Just heard that Nedved won't be playing against Germany (Czechs go for the fair play award?) so I think there's little hope for the Dutch squad. Such team, such results, such a shame...

I'd like to see Holland get through as they're a lot more entertaining than Germany. If they don't then I think Advocaat will be looking for a new job and we (Rangers fans) definitely don't want him back!

One really does wonder how 9+ senior football referee's could have got away with corruption and fixing games in South Africa's Premier league without being spotted by anybody earlier ?
Conspiricy theorists always will abound, and God forbid even the thought of the Czech Republic's safe entry into the quarter finals being grounds to not give 101% against their great friends Germany next wednesday evening.

Hi all,
Been enjoying the good games so far but does anybody else feel that the outcome of some matches is more than influenced by the quality of the refereeing than anything the twenty two players do. This tournament has had the worst refereeing of any I can recall.

I think the World Cup was far worse for comedy referees. These are pretty much the same guys who referee the Champions League so as crap as usual I would say. They need to do something about the Cumberland Wrestling that passes for marking at corners and free kicks. A major problem is players are such cheating bastards, if Van Horseface goes down how can you tell if he is diving or a genuine foul?

Apparently the Croations are going to do what they can to get Rooney to do the red mist thing and get himself sent off - late tackles, insults, professional fouls, whatever.
Sven knows this, Rooney himself knows this and I'm sure that Pierluigi Collina, who's going to referee the match, also knows this.
But the boy's only 18 yrs old so I've got two questions:
1. Will Rooney react in the heat of the battle and get red-carded or will it back-fire against the Croatians?
2. If he is provoked and gets sent off, will our beloved press react as disgracefully as they did with Beckham?

I agree - I'd like to see Holland through as well because they contributed to a great game against the Czechs. One wonders, however, why they bother to employ a manager when it seems that he's only there to be openly disrespected by his players (who obviously think they know better) for the decisions he makes!

Nice little walk in the park wasn't it, hat's off to the Croatians, a strange game really I reckon though.

England lost shape in second half and let the game get loose. Sven really is an interesting manager getting King on to hold in midfield and then resting roonaldo. I like England to go the whole way. Scholes is the key and he played very well again today before tiring.
