Buying Music When in Tokyo

Posted by: Mike in PA, USA on 07 January 2005

Hi all and Happy New Year,

I will be in Tokyo very breifly for business next week. I may only have a couple free hours, but wondered if anyone knew if it would be worthwhile to try to pick up some well-recorded CD titles while over there...?

Cheers,
Mike

Hi Mike,

You have to try to fit in Disk Union.

Let me know if you have trouble finding the shop. Most hotels should know about it. Fabulous for both vinyl and CD on 7 floors IIRC (although I am ashamed to say that I didn't venture into the basement "Japanes Underground" which is no doubt to best part of the store). Make a (satur)day of it if you can. Very knowledgeable and helpful staff, really happy that you came to their store. Also lots of vinyl accessories more expensive and hard to find in the US like Zerodust, various cleaners and cartridges. Plus an additional whole shop for Dave Slater oriented genres. Some of the imports are expensive, but even if you don't buy much, it should be fun.

Hope you can make it, you're in for a treat!

Jeremy,

I very much appreciate your reply, although it turned out that my schedule only allowed a day in Tokyo, including my responsibilites to the work project, so no chance to do this. All I got in was some (great) sushi and saki. Still, I will keep Diskunion in mind should the opportunity arise again that I find myself in the land of the rising sun.

Cheers,
Mike
