how old is it?

My units vintage is about 1995. I have four Naim CD players spread out over 3 systems so none of them have gotten any heavy use.

Arthur,

to the best of my knowledge THE CDS-I & CDS-II BURNDYs ARE DIFFERENT.

Damage will be caused to your CDS if you use the wrong one!!

Apologies if you knew this already.

Yeah I was wondering about this. Wasn't entirely sure. I was sure that if I took it off an CDX/XPS (like I did)that I could put it on a CDS2/XPS. As I remember when you upgrade the CDS1 to a CDS1.5 that you have to send in the Burndy for modification with it to work with the CDS1-PS. I guess this will make the upgraded cable the equivalent of the XPS Burndy.

Another question. Is the Burndy with the NAC52/SupercapCap the same as the XPS Burndy or are they completely different?

Arthur,

I understand the following Burndy configurations are available:-

SuperCap + 52
SuperCap + SNAXO
XPS + CDS-II or CDX
CDPS + CDS-I
CDPS + CDS-II (PS end is CDS-I style, CD end CDS-II style)

Use of the wrong cable will either not plug in or will likely destroy something.

SuperCap & XPS Burndy's are certainly not interchangeable as the PS's have a different number of power rails.

Thanks for the warning (& email). I was already thinking about it and was going to call NANA before I did any swapping.

I find it curious that a CDS1.5 with the modified Burndy is different than the black Burndy supplied with the xps. I had assumed they were the same. Guess you never know until you ask.

I didn't realize that there were so many different iterations of the Burndy cable.

Arthur,

the CDS-II/CDPS cable is a hybrid.

The CDS-II end is configured the same as the CDS-II/XPS one.

The CDPS end is left wired to the CDPS/CDS-I config (i.e. unchanged).

If you replace the CDPS with an XPS you get a new cable, even if you already have a black hybrid one. The old cable would then be moved on with the CDPS.

Of course, in theory that leaves open the possibility of an XPS/CDS-I cable, but I've never heard of one, and don't even know if such a thing is possible.

cheers, Martin

P.S. the different configs possible with the SuperCap explain why the Burndy is not bundled with it (but is with the 52).
