Need a new dvd player as my Pioneer is showing its age - was looking at maybe the Denon 1910 but any help would be accepted.

I recently purchased a Cambridge player from Ritcher Sounds, I forget the model but it came in at well under £200 and does prog scan and all that good stuff.

Mike

I think nowdays that unless you've a suitably large screen or need something offered by a more expensive machine, you're as well off getting a Toshiba for fifty quid from the likes of Richer Sounds.

Pioneer 575A - supports just about every format under the sun (inc divx) and is a bargain at sub £150

Not sure about how to read Pauls' comments but I have a Toshiba and it is excellent. Funnily enough the much-derided What Hi-Fi was absolutely spot on. Bought from Techtronics on t'net two years again and it's been great.

I've another user of the 575 Pioneer and it's excellent, even when used with my projector and 8ft screen.

I'm with Mike - I also recently bought a Cambridge DVD55 (with prog scan) from Mr Richer for £100.

Just looked on the web-shite and whaddya know? - it's down to £80.

Incredible. It'll even play your still digital photos off CD-R's.

But............ the crazy bit is; you need something like a £50 'QED SQUART' Scart lead to do it justice!

Madness.

As John has said you seem to need a expensive connection block to run all the scarts into with the standard DVD set up,so has anyone had any experence ,good or bad with the VHS/DVD combination sets that are now more readably available at around £150 ish
oldie.

I meant all the mags gave/give Toshibas top marks for picture quality, and I think that unless you've a really dogs bollocks screen I don't think there's any point spending more on a DVD player unless it does something you want that cheaper ones don't, DVD audio etc.

I'd spend £50 on the DVD player and get a half-decent scart lead from the likes of CPC where you don't pay just for the name/packaging.

Paul

Hi Paul,

Wasn't having a go. I just wasn't clear on your point. Now I understand it, it is obvious that

a)I was being thick, and,
b) I agree with you.

Occean,

I've also bought the 575A and it works a treat. Not only that but I've got virtually the same hifi system as you ! Only difference is I've upgraded my 112 to 202.

I am actually running the older DV-656A, which I cannot complain about at all.

And I pick up my speakers this evening as I have only just purchased them! Have been using some mission 732 that the store lent me since i purchased the rest of the system!

Roayalblue this review has just appeared for the 575

SNAP Smile From Techtronics, last year, and it's never put a foot wrong. Baring in mind my original Sony AND the Samsung that replaced that had numerous flaws/bugs, I was gobsmacked.

I'd definitely buy Pioneer again when this one dies (don't want to tempt fate - he he!)

Cheers one and all - ended up getting a new Denon 2900 for half price - double my budget but it's only money and you can't take it with you, can you?

I bought a Denon 2200 from Superfi for £300 and it's miles better than my old pioneer. Does PAL progressive, has and is a universal player (so can do SACD/DVD-Audio).
