Second Williams F1 drive......who?

Posted by: Lee Brindley on 22 December 2004

Seems its down to Antonio (paranoid) Pizzonia or Nick (sulky) Heidfeld....

Anyone any comments or pros / cons?

My money is still on pizza boy but with a number of points scored clause up to xx number of races, then Heidfeld gets a go if he's not achieved it - so Heidfeld will sign initially as tester.

Can't see Pizzonia working out with Mark Webber, as MW will probably blow him away again, and the argument/truth/excuse that the team only gave 1 car full attention or latest spec parts wont work.

He's Jungle boy is an FW favourite....but for how long!

I get the impression that Williams have written off next season, at least as far as the manufacturers championship is concerned, if these are the names they have to choose from.

Pizzonia hasn't exactly shone - and Webber is going to have to do a lot of PR back pedaling if it falls that way. Heidfeld has been around for ages - you'd think he'd have made some sort of impression by now and got snapped up. Maybe this is his big chance to realise all the potential we didn't know he had.

Could have been worse - DC might have got it!

Agree with Tony. 2005's going to be a stop gap season for Williams - which will hopefully be a small blip. Having said that, I'm rteally looking forward to seeing what Webber can do with some proper engineering. Could be seriously good fun. But I think it'll be uphill all the way.

Cheers

Due to the German press Nick Heidfeld has the place.

From what I've seen most of the last five years have been a 'stopgap' for WGPE - the cars have been pretty dire and neither driver has impressed much!
