Mercedes C class - service due warning indicator
Posted by: davewarehouse on 26 November 2004
Hi,
My Merc C200 (W202, W plate) recently prompted me that a service was due, and proceeded to count down from 1200 miles, every time I switched on the ignition the warning would appear opn the digital odometer. Having recently serviced it myself I did not worry. Now, having passed the supposed service interval it beeps at me and the odometer stays blank for at least a minute before reverting to the odometer reading. Firstly, I wonder if there is any way to disable this warning, aside from paying a Mercedes dealer to perform an unneccessary servive only 2000 miles after I have done it myself. I would be most greatful for any info regarding this. Also, does anyone know the intervals for these cars, and does it depend on the underlying mileage of the car, ie do the service intervals decrease as mileage increases. Lastly, my previous Mercs (190E, E300) used timing chains, not belts and as such this was maintainance free. My car has done 161,000 miles, yet still runs and sounds like new and I don't want to run the risk of a timing belt snapping if so fitted. again, any info would be most appreciated.
