PC DVD Region Question

Posted by: Martin D on 24 December 2004

Hi guys
I’ve started watching some DVD’s on the PC. (XP Pro powedvd patched up latest everything) BUT I’ve got loads from all over the place. The problem is that windows says you can only change the region 4 times. Is there a hack or solution to this? Sorry for my ignorance, but I cant see why there is this bloody control over things I wish to do or watch. AAAAAHHHHH.

If anyones advice is err not very allowed, PT me or martin at analog dot demon dot co dot uk

Might be worth taking a look at DVD Genie, always worked for me when I had a PC.

Depending on what make/model of DVD drive you have, you might have to do some tinkering with firmware - sometimes drives are region locked as well as software.. after all why would you want to watch the DVDs you've paid for Smile

Martin,

What is the make and model of the DVD, as depending on which you've got there are many replacement firmware versions that make the drive multiregion.

You do however, still require a software change to allow the software you use to play to operate in multiregion - this is where DVD Genie comes in.

The centre of the universe for this sort of firmware change is rpc1.org

There are many sub-sites, such as the one dedicated to Pioneer drives

Be careful if you wish to go this route, as you can turn your DVD drive into an ornament.
