Thank you from the bottom of my heart.
Just as the commentators were w**king (insert OR or AN as applicable) themselves into a state of euphoria and calling the players HEROES (Did they forget the D-Day celebrations ?), up steps ZZ.
Feckin' magic !!!!!

Definitely a lot of bitterness there, methinks!
Sorry to disillusion Jon but no bitterness. Just a warm glow, a large glass of the golden stuff, and a smile a mile wide.

Perhaps if you took your gloating head out of your own arse you'd realise that.
Sad but no real surprise to see the Jocks falling stereotypically into line: "Come One Whoever England Are Playing beacaue we aint good enought to qualify!!!!!"
No doubt you will all be toddling off to buy replica Switzerland shirts.
Pathetic, boring and sooooooooo predictable.
And did I say pathetic?

As a nation that are not represented we look at the tournament without the obligatory "rose-coloured" glasses. Therefore our heads are not "up our arses".
It may strike you as a surprise that the Scottish press actually advocate that we either support England (as our UK brothers) or Croatia (since they have a similar populus and comparing to Holland would seem unfair)
It's still amazing the England has 10 times the populous of Scotland but your most admired and successful club manager hailed from Govan, Glasgow, Scotland.
Lest we forget - Wenger, Ranieri, Erikson et al............
Shite - forgot Onion Head

Bob and Alex only clashed once, in the Europen Cup of 1980/81. Bob won 1-0 and 4-0. Pretty conclusive .

We see national news coverage of "British" fans rioting abroad when England are playing
Sorry to butt in, please show be a reference, any reference, to rioting "British" football fans. They are always referred to as English.
Although I can tell you that a few years ago there was s small number of Rangers fans who started going to England away games for the sake of a fight.

Supporting the opponents of your rivals is the last resort of the pathetic.
You seem very selective in your detailing of the Scottish stereotypes - what about Monarch of the Glen, Hamish McBeth et al? Shite, yes, but not the drunken image you seem to suggest is the whole.
The one stereotype of Scotland that is really not true (I lived in Scotland for three years) is the whole "meanness" thing. But when you persist in this jingoistic England-hatred, it is you, the Scots, who contuinue to promulgate it. And the tartan/shortcake clichés are all your own responsibility too.
Your football manager is (maybe was, I really don't care) German, so the other criticisms don't hold water either. And the Germans are really quite good. Still, even with his help your team struggles against island outcrops whose entire population wouldn't fill a large stadium. Even more remarkably, most English people want(ed) you to win when you play.
Nor were there riots in Portugal.
If you want to be so fiercely proud of the Scottishness of hating England, why don't you keep it to yourselves?

As disappointing as it was to lose, France are still the favourites to win the competition and they did play the better football; especially in the second half.
If we found it hard to watch, imagine how Stephen Gerrard must have felt at the final whistle. His poor backpass resulted in the penalty and France gaining a win they didn't deserve. A draw would have been a fair result.
EngLand are capable of beating both Switzerland and Croatia to reach the second stage.
As for our Scottish Forum Members, a 2-1 defeat to the best team in Europe is a better performance than losing 6-0 to Holland in a qualifier.

Our national team is absolutely shit though, plus we've got probably the worst manager in the world.
Still - the last time we played England we won if I recall correctly.

He's simplified things recently and the situation has improved because we've been trying to find our level (e.g. Trinidan and Tobago) so we can play teams we've got a chance to beat. There are some good young players coming through, so there is some hope for the future however I'd much rather a better manager were in charge - someone like Strachan or Davie Hay would be fine.

He's obviously channelling Kevin Keegan.

Speaking as an Englishman who supports the English team, I have no problem with these jibes and gloating from the Scottish forum members. However, I will take some convincing that when our fans riot they are referred to as British in the media. Its always "England supporters" in the news.

I disagree that Scots are no good at anything.
Macallan & Springbank are world class.
On the football front they do have some good young players, unfortunately Berti Vogts isn't the best choice of boss.
Gordon Strachan would be a better choice.
Mark Hughes turned Wales into a better team, because the players respect him and want to play for him.
Scottish players should be able to respect Gordon Strachan in the same way. Plus Strachan is a more astute manager than Berti Vogts.

Peter,
I'm not so sure about Strachan. His mind seems to be on other things at the moment. Vogts has been a disastrous appointment as far as I'm concerned but he's not got much to work with to be honest. The standard of our game is shockingly poor at the moment and I'm not sure I see any way back. Years of neglect and mismanagement are now taking their toll (whatever happened to Ernie Walker's Think Tank for example?). On top of that our kids seem to have too many more attractive alternative pastimes to bother playing football so there's not nearly so many promising youngsters about.

Things are improving. The financial state of the game up here is leading to less foreign players being imported and more young players getting a game. Several teams (e.g. Hibs, Motherwell, Celtic & Rangers) are producing talented young players and these players now have a much better chance of getting a game.
In most positions we have players coming through that are better than we've had in a while, although we still seem very short of decent central defenders. Kennedy from Celtic looks a player but we'll have to see how well he recovers from injury. Dowie from Rangers has impressed in the under-21 games I've seen but he's yet to make the 1st team breakthrough.
Anyway I don't see us qualifying for a major tournament anytime soon however when and if we do I'm definitely going to go as such chances will be few and far between as the world game has definitely moved past us.

I hope you're right Steve but we seem to be moving backwards while the rest of the world overtakes us. I confess I don't see any quick (or even medium term) fix. I think we're stuck like this for a number of years to come.

I agree it'll be a few years but we might have something approach a team for the next European qualifiers.

Maybe the reason scottish footie isn't widely covered is because it's dull. Only ever 2 teams in it, who are about the same standard as a middle-of-the Premiership side.
And the reason you're not in this competition is not because of your manager, it's because your players are rubbish.
So stop your pathetic gloating - get a frikkin' life.

It's this sort of post that makes me truly happy at the result. That and the England fans singing "Are you Scotland in disguise?" to the French...
Go on moan some more, it really cheers me up.
BTW The teams in our qualification group were so poor (including Germany) that Scotland should really have qualified top of our group. Losing to a Lithuanian pub team and drawing with the Faroe Islands was unforgivable for any Scotland team.
In the Faroes game we were so disorganized that we deserved to lose (only Barry Ferguson and Paul Lambert showing any real commitment) and the Lithuanians were possibly the worst international team I've ever seen.
