Stock up on Lard

Posted by: J.N. on 16 November 2004

From today's (Tuesday 16th) Eastern Daily Press:-

Festive lard stocks are running low
"Christmas cooks have been braced for a second festive food shortage - with a warning that lard supplies are running low.

Somerfield said that the Europe wide shortage has been caused by dwindling supplies of cheap pork cuts following unprecedented demand from Eastern European countries for the cheapest cuts to meet their demand for sausages, salamis and pies."

I kid you not!

Goose fat is what you need

Goose [or duck] fat indeed.

Today's lard is a total abomination, and just one whiff of heated same leaves you in no doubt and drives home the full horror of what it really, actually is [rendered corpses], and thus needs the combined power of two Glade Plug-Ins [on 6!] to overcome it.

In olden times you could fry your chips in it and have it on toast for tea.....

On a related note, once I was having a happy cultural afternoon in Pere LaChaise Cemetary, at one with Beaudelaire etc., when the cremator started up and a downdraught and no doubt lax French funerary legislation meant I got a whiff of the smoke ..... would you believe that it smelt so much like Sunday roast that I salivated?

Grotesque and Unpleasant throb

Dripping sandwiches were always good in winter as they are here and in hamburg (real street-life life savers) Lard-arses, though a Larder did my Mother too have, but we never had a Pant tree in out garden !
