Decided on the Nait 5i/Spendor S5e combination. Question regarding NACA 5 termination...
Posted by: billgpdx on 01 May 2004
Hi all,
Well after much listening I finally decided that the Nait 5i combined with the small Spendor S5e floorstanders provided the most sonic enjoyment for the money. The small size of the Spendors was a big plus. This combination works especially great for rock and jazz. I'm thinking that I should go ahead and use Naim's NACA 5 cable.
For those of you running NACA 5 to bi-wireable speakers: do you use the factory jumpers supplied with the speakers or do you jumper with an additional bit of the NACA 5? Any other details would be appreciated.
Many thanks, Bill

Hi Bill,
Much better to discard the jumpers that came with the speakers and use a length of NACA5.
Remember the A5 is directional so make sure it is connected correctly.

Thanks for the reponses.
Any termination would be handled by my dealer.

By the way, I missed this photo in my earlier post:
bazz's setup
This is more of what I was thinking of.
All the best,

I can confirm that the F plug arrangement I use sounds far better than the supplied jumpers, which by comparison rob the speakers of much of their life and attack.
The S5e's diminuitive (for floorstanders) size takes a bit of getting used to, but they are the most wonderful speakers.

bazz - thanks!
I've gone for the rosenut as well and look forward to receiving them in the not too distant future (I hope).
All the best,
Bill

Strange weather here, as well - been sunny and in the 80's.
With my Linaeum LFX/C bi-wirables, have tried factory flat-brass jumper, Wireworld spade terminated jumpers, and homemade NACA5 spade terminated jumpers. My conclusion, after innumerable changeoveers, is the factory supplied brass is my preference. The terminated jumpers are more "spectacular" upon initial use, but the enhanced leading edge to the notes and the subsequent detail (actually spotlighting to my ear) becomes quite tiring over time. With the flat-brass originals, I forget the sound and just listen to the music.
Obviously, these results apply only to my speakers and my ears. Probably trying different combinations in a familiar environment (ie home) and not jumping (pardon me) to immediate conclusions will allow you to find the best long-term solution/connection.
Looks like you have some pleasure on the horizon. Enjoy your new purchases.

Ditto Talismans. Utterly shocking - in a nice way. Maybe it's a Ruark thing?
Cheers

Never bothered with the experiment. Having read the wise sages (and not so wise ones) advice on this forum I got my dealer to the whole "F" connection thing. And very happy I am too!

Hi Bill. Dave Elmgren from Michigan here...you spoke with me about Spendors, Harbeths, etc. while looking around for speakers. I'm delighted you found exactly what you were hoping for! I'll second (or third)the comment about using NACA 5 on this setup...excellent cable and a perfect match of course for the 5i.
Good listening!

Hi Dave,
Thanks again for your input (past and present)! In the end I decided that it would be hard to beat the price/enjoyment ratio that the S5e offers - given my musical preferences. Not to mention that the size of the little Spendors works out perfectly given my room setup. Paired with the Nait 5i, I just couldn't resist.
All the best,
Bill

Bill,
Everyone else is wrong. Stip about 3 inches of Naca 5 bare and run it through the holes in both binding posts. Insert from the top, tighten, listen and enjoy. This is best.

I tried the F-thing on my Totem Arros, but since their terminals are angled it was pure hell trying to bend the naca in place and keep the soldering intact. Bloody Canadians. The factory jumpers are ugly, but i guess I have no other choise, especially with the + going to the top and – to the bottom terminal as recommended.
Well, they sound brilliant anyway.

This one is perfect but the best is yet to come...
