Smoking update

Four weeks today, phew, have felt crappy (for a few days) with a heavy cold and have been given some meds by the doctor to clear the crap from my chest.
Four weeks not bad though....

All very well and good and congratulations but personally I'd be a bit bothered about dropping my trousers in public or falling to the floor barking like a mad dog every time someone snapped their fingers..

I've seen a hypnotherapist about fear of flying years ago, and that worked for me.
It has to be worth a try. I think it's great that you guys can give it up.

I think hypnotherapy probably works if you really want to give up. I was all set to go for a session when I realised I really wanted to give up and therefore didn't need to go for a session.
P, on the count of three I will snap my fingers . . .

quote:You may not like to read this but I guess in 20 years virtually no-one will still smoke - or maybe a couple of pityful die-hards (about the same kind of guys who kept to this day the disgusting habit of chewing tobacco). It will most probably be replaced by another large-scale drug by then but that's another story.
I think it's great that you guys can give it up.
Therefore the sooner you stop, the less you cough and the more money you save.

Have browsed through the thread...
Carr has been mentioned a couple of times. His book helped me, 3-4 years ago (can't even remember) to get rid of the 30 Gauloises a day ("P" mentioned them...). What I understood of Carr's "method" is:
It is such a great gift to have all these things back that you left behind when you started smoking !
Tasting your food
Waking up without headache and coughing
No panic before an airplane ride to California
Enjoying the full length of a dinner (!) without "when will this bum finish his desert !"
Saving some money
Planning your day without necessary "stops"
etc, etc, etc
Today, I remember why I thought smoking means enjoy of something, and it sends me shivers down my spine, how perfectly I lied to myself.
Side note: strangely nobody mentioned smoking other stuff than tobacco.
Best regards, freundliche Grüße
Stefan

Nine months for me, and apart from all the flavours I can now taste again, the biggest joy is that my body feels so good that it has an almost permanent urge to do something (running a couple of times around the house, for instance).
Before quitting, I had the extra problem of being an occasional every-few-weeks pot smoker. It wasn't an addiction but it was somehow part of my way of life - a little joint used to help me relaxing better than anything else. It happened one day that I found pot smoking a completely silly waste of time. The most astonishing thing is that I can not really remember having smoked that long, let alone pot...
And by stopping to smoke pot, you also lose loads of bad habits (e.g. goofing around at home when the sun is shining). Well this is just to say that pot smoking is as silly as cigarette smoking.
Our only choice is to stop it. The sooner we do it the better.

That's because if we do, long-time-dead will report us to the police and have us locked up.

Or worse, strap us down and put "Interstellar Space" on repeat...

Nothing I keep buying myself "reward" gifts. An electric bass is the best so far. Negotiating for a WEM Copicat ATM.
Its about £2000 +/- not allowing for about 300 tonnes of extra food(junk mainly). Thats the next bridge to cross losing about 40 lbs.

It is a mighty battle, but knowing me if I had just one ciggie I'd have many more - so no, no going back...
I do feel better physically, but feel that after nigh on 30 years of smoking it will take some time before all the toxins are out of my system.
On the money side, not sure how much I've saved, but I have bought a few CD's, clothes, and loads of garden stuff recently and I'm no worse off that's for sure. 2 new cats will be next
