Alex G & Husker Du

How's your Husker Du adventure gone?

Given that they're a Top 5 all-time if not Top 3 band, there should be some sense of urgency here Alex. Wink

I recommend Candy Apple Grey, Warehouse: Songs & Stories, and Zen Arcade to get a nice cross-section of their brilliance when the mood strikes you. You'll then realize that Mould is god.

Mould is really annoying.

But it sort of grows on you inna because you can't get rid of it kinda way

P--

Ludwig had it right--Mould is a god.

Alex--Just buy all the Husker Du albums now--you will anyway...

If you don't, I'd substitute "Flip Your Wig" for Candy Apple Grey.

Impossible to credit that Zen Arcade, New Day Rising, and Flip Your Wig were all made in just over a year...

And equally sad to compare Husker's output with anything I've heard coming out today....

Best,

Bob

Wow, a top band.

You need Zen Arcade, New Day Rising, Flip Your Wig, Candy Apple Grey (some great tracks although a poor album in comparison) and the mighty Warehouse: Songs and Stories.

Be very wary of solo Du though. You will need advice.

Now, anybody here love the Replacements?

Can vouch for Candy Apple Grey, some songs are wild and some mellow - a nice mix and all in all a quietly powerful album that really stays with you long after you have finished listening.

It seems I need to give Flip Your Wig a spin. My recollection is foggy.

No Land Speed Record then?

I have fond memories of working to and from work in London through Ally Pally listening to Zen Arcade, a fine record.

Alex

the missing link between Husker Du and YLT = Sonic Youth - are they in your collection? They'd give YLT a good wrestle for my best band ever, although either of them is Tom Waits - surely you have all of his stuff?

If you've not got any Sonic Youth, I think "Sister" is the best place to start.

Sonic Youth's Daydream Nation really is a landmark record. I must listen to it again this week. Fantastic guitar sound on that album.

The Replacements - someone start a thread please.

Sugar - I actually forgot how great they were. FILE has its' moments but is probably the weakest. Solo Bob - just avoid Black Sheets of Rain.

Sonic Youth - yeah I need some advice on them.

Although I used to love HD in the late 80's, I recently played Warehouse: Songs & Stories for the first time in about 13 years. I'm afraid it just doesn't do it for me anymore. Shame really.
