'Martin Scorcese Presents The Blues'

Posted by: J.N. on 01 January 2005

BBC4 TV - 10pm Monday 3rd January.

This is a superb film type documentary, tracing the origins of the blues. Well worth catching, if you missed it last time.

Further related programmes follow at 10pm on Tuesday and Thursday.

Thanks for the reminder guys. I ony saw part of it last time and was very impressed. Since then I have become more interested in Acoustic Blues.
For Christmas Santa brought me the Keb Mo cd from the series, very very good and I bought the
Eric Clapton "Robert Jonhson Songs". I am not so sure about the Clapton cd, but Have only played is twice. I think the sound quality is not good, also I think it has jumped a couple of times. This maybe due with the copyProtection encoding? Any suggestions? It plays OK though.
This time I am going to tape it on my VCR.

Jim,

Does it skip at approximately 9 seconds into each track?? My copy did this on the CD5 until i had the PIC upgrade, and its been fine ever since so i would imagine thats your problem.

Have hardly listened to the album though. I do like Clapton stuff, but i just cant get into this one.

With regards to the Scorcese Blues stuff, i purchased the 5 CD complilation box set, as i began to get into the blues last year before the series was shown. Have found it an excellent collection, and a great way to get introduced to some of the many different artists involved in the blues throught the years.

Regards

Craig

Hi Craig,

Yes I think it does skip very early into the track. Not sure it does on every track though. If this is the problem, how much does the upgrade cost? I have a CDS2, and does it need a dealer to do the mod?

Incidentely, what do you think to the sound quality on the Clapton Robert Jonhson Songs and the Box Set Collection.

Jim,

The mod was done by my dealer whilst i waited. No idea how much it costs generally though as i had it done for free having only recently purchased the CD player when the update was released.

Think the sound quality on both is great, however i have no reference as i only use a CD player. For some reason though that Clapton album i just dont find involving enough, i think i have only listened to it all the way through once. May give it another go later now. At the momeant though i am listening to my Chrimbo present, which is an ABKCO box set of the remastered complete back cataqlog of the Rolling Stones - bloody great stuff. SACD/ normal CD dual layer with all maner of other jiggery pockery, sounds excellent.
