What constitutes an athlete?

The joke used to be darts players being called athletes. Is this so far from it:

The guy is undoubtedly great, but sprinting hole to hole might be too much to expect.

Darts players are atheletes. To hold a pint a ciggie and throw darts needs an athletic ability.
