Naim EQ

Naim EQ?

Guys I am experimenting to make the most of a mediocre sound I am getting from my mac into an arcam dac.

Now don't laugh and bearing in mind I will get another CDplayer in the future is there any way of knowing how naim sound is crafted?

Do they for instance have a form of EQ they want to achieve when designing Kit and how best could I set an EQ on the mac to best emulate the sound I enjoy, or at least improve the sound to a reasonable level whilst I wait to purchase another CDPlayer.

Right now the sound can be harsh, (I am actually worried about my tweeters). I appreciate the file sizes are half what they used to be so basically I am trying to polish a turd but improvements can be made with a bit of tweaking in the short term perhaps.

Any ideas?

Hy garyi!Do not know how cd sound by naim is done, but i would look to the threads about "dither".normal equalizer can bring you only to better tonality.the other part of sound
is your mac cd "transport".
So iwould say decide between:equalizer(cheap) in your soundcard and naim cd (best).

Garyi -

Have you tried an iPod instead of the Mac itself?

Gary, don't tell anyone, but you can get a "plug-in" from www.keepondreamin.com that'll make your "computer" sound like a proper Naim "sistem".

BTW, I heard an iPod docked into a dedicated station by Altec Lansing the other day -- thought it sounded fabulous for what it was (could have been because someone had just poked lots of needles in my skin, though).

Which Arcam DAC are you using with the Macintosh - and by what method is the signal travelling to the DAC?

The audio hardware (and its driver, under whatever OS you're using) will also make a difference, especially as noted earlier WRT dither and playback buffer settings.

(I gather that you're using iTunes, or something else?)

Out put the G5 via optical toslink, into a Arcam Crap Box 3 then into the hifi.

Yes I am using itunes.
