If the member is to be found in Bellmarsh then the cell is indeed genuine.
Posted on: 16 October 2004 by Deane F
I assume you are referring to The Padded Cell. In which case I cannot but comment that those members who post under noms-de-plume are either not genuine or have trust issues. Or both.
Those members who invest their trust in the forum to the extent that they use their actual names are more likely to nurture whatever trust is invested in them by other members.

Bollocks - is that why you have a surname of only one letter ?

I trade under my own name, and I work for lots of professionals and professional clients that I relate to in a different way that I would relate to friends. As I air my opinions on this forum and get stuck into sensitive issues such as religion and politics, I wouldn't want any of my clients to identify me here and know my personal views.
Maybe I am being over sensitive, but if you found someone here who was your bank manager or something and you had a professional disagreement, it might be slightly awkward if they thought they knew your personal standpoints on certain matters. I like to say what I think here without having to worry about my professional reputation.
Maybe it's just me....

I thought Fritz was refering to Terror Cell membere hence the link to cells in Bellmarsh where we keep a few but as you can never be too sure what Fritz in on about I might be wrong.
Posted on: 16 October 2004 by Deane F
I suspect Fritz was taking the piss about the Rolex thread. The only proper inference I can draw from his sarcasm is that the topics he starts, and the posts he makes, are relevant and important to everybody.
Long-time-dead, my last name is Foreman.
Deane Foreman was shortened to Deane F because this forum was the first forum I have ever joined and I wasn't sure what was expected of me.
I try to live a transparent life. My deeds reveal my character - not my words. My views can only be justified by the way I live - not the other way around.

I selected my web "handle" as being a little easier to type and after my usually nick "name" of H, bigh is next in line.No thought to deceive or defraud.
To be honest I didn't even try for H as I assumed it to be already gone by the time I got here. There did not seem to be a subscribers list to peruse, and it probably would be unavailable until you registered if there was one.

My surname is quite rare despite its brevity.
However, I try to be as transparent as possible without revealing too much information about exactly where I live and which taxi firm I work for.
Hopefully the Data Protection Act should prevent any sad individual phoning all the local Councils in Staffordshire to discover which one I was licensed under and where I lived.
Regards,
Steve.

I hide behind the alias Ross Mackenzie because the illusion I can create of a middle aged bald music and hi fi enthusiast with a 'normal' set of challenges, problems, opportunities, friends, worries, apsirations, and love of life allows me to protect you from who I really am.
My real name is 192.168.0.1 and I'm a unique and and remarkable example of the human condition.
Outside this forum I am devastatingly handsome, intellectually without peer, the solver of great riddles, ridder of plagues, liked and loved unconditionally by all and my opinions are sought by and agreed with by all men and women of influence.
I only post here occassionally under my alias to get some sort of understanding of what it must be like for you lot and to make you feel better about yourselves.
No need to thank me, I'd just blush and that would detract from the the luminescent sheen of my perfect teeth.
kind regards

I try to ensure that I am prepared to say the same things to people's faces that I would be prepared to write down on this or any other forum, or in a letter or an article for that matter. It prevents hypocrisy.
However, it is true that perhaps the only advantage of the surname "Smith" is the degree of anonymity it provides.

I agree and I know what you mean. But there is a time and a place and I like to be in control of that. I would say anything here to your face too, and I would hate to upset or behave differently here than "in the flesh", and I hope I never offend anyone here, but on this forum we are speaking in public. Look at the number of views to each thread. This is like TV debate!
We can all be chummy here, and I have become friends with and meet regularly some forum members as a direct result of this forum, but ultimatly this is the internet where anyone can look in, and for me, where my email address for business reasons is my name.com (and it wouldn't be difficult to suss that), I would be very open to spammers and hackers. The internet is not safe and you and me and the other names you know and recognise here are not the only ones watching.
If my work wasn't a factor, maybe I wouldn't be so careful.
I don't like to think that you disrespect what I say just because of my chosen name. I believe I have a good reason, and I respect the other veiwpoint too.
I would also add that I spend a great deal of my day writing letters that very carefully put across what I need to say whilst remaining detatched from any legal consequencies from parties other than my clients. I don't want to spend time here chosing my words that carefully.

I may be a bore here, but to illustrate:
Put Tom Alves into Google and find either a Chuch of England Records keeper, or this.
Whether this is Tom or not is not the point, but anyone can do this to anyone who gives names here, and there may be problems.
Maybe I'm just paranoid!

Ok. That was my post just above. I took Fritz's topic seriously (I'm a bit slow ) and my post was a serious attempt to address his question with some added (and, I must admit, poorly formulated and directed) irony that I hoped would reflect only on Fritz's own use of a nom-de-plume.
I made a serious mistake. I ought to have given a little more consideration to the other members who would read my post and draw perfectly justified inferences about how my opinion reflected on their reasons for using noms-de-plume. For that lack of consideration and for any offence that may have been implied or contained in my post I apologise unreservedly.
I will say this. Fritz spends a lot of time on this forum if the amount of posts are anything to go by. He seems to read most threads so I think he heaps his own scorn on his own head when he says on the genuine rolex thread "I can't believe you guys sometimes, at least I waste my time gettin drunk !"
For me the forum is not a toy. I value each member who posts here and everybody who watches from the sidelines. The members of my own household are the outlet for my wit and sarcasm. As well as the humour to be found I also value the forum because most debate is informed and I come across few people in my daily life who actually think, as opposed to merely calculating or exercising prejudices. There are a lot of balanced opinions and informed positions on this forum. It is what keeps me coming back.

Blimey Deane.
First off - You most certainly do not need to apologise for stating your opinion. I can't see how anyone could be offended by anything that you have contributed in the time that you have here.
Secondly - Your contibutions to this forum in the short time that you've been here so far have been very worthwhile, respectful and extremely welcome.
That you thought anyone taking offense is an example of how easy it is to be misunderstood and maybe we should all use smilies etc more to make it clearer.
I am very interested that there is now a thread about "name downsizing". I hadn't actually noticed that there has been a trend in this direction over the past few weeks. Maybe someone that has done this recently to would like to expain their reasons?

Fritz,
This was your response to a post of mine on the 'Ken Bigley' thread. I therefore wonder whether I am the Cell member to whom you're alluding with your question. If so, I would be willing to demonstrate that I am who I claim to be and that I'm not anyone else. I could also ask another 'genuine member' who knows me, if he would be prepared to vouch for me.
If I'm not the member under suspicion, then forgedaboudit. I will say, however, that I considered your post above to be a personal attack and I was upset by it. I cannot speak for the other two gentlemen who are also denigrated by your comment but I'd be surprised if they were thrilled. As a result, I have felt disinclined to continue posting on the Padded Cell forum. Who needs that type of aggravation?

Like German folk who are constantly shaking each others hands, and clinking their glasses together I sometimes wonder how they get the good results (generally) that vthey're famous for. I compare this to continually having the feeling that I'm in some way never endinglay owing the world an apology when I know I don't. Though I am sorry for folk that take themselves far too seriously on occassion, I think this cell's mainly self-regulatory style works great, and I do honestly say sorry to any body insulted by things that I would consider a compliment Robinson/Parryesque remark for instance. I've never been out looking for one-upmanship smartie points (for what ? with who'm ?) and vertainly not grammatical acclaim, just a bit of good quality differences of opinion and experience/expertise with releative humour, deadly seriousness when required and, a certain amount of reading between the lines, innit.
