Hi guys,

I was just wondering...

But I wondered, what was your first Naim axperience ?
Or what was your first Naim system

BTW, I just love to read this forum practically
every day. Ha,It's like a little Naimie family.

ok, see ya' guys.

Greetings,

I didn't get my upgrade bug from Naim - I had it before but I think that with Naim I'm more relexed about upgrading and enjoy music at home as I'd never before I new Naim.

About 10 years ago I had a QED amp and a Thorens 166 TT. I met naim dealer in Israel in a stereo show in Tel Aviv (Omer, sometimes I MUST visiting Tel Aviv) I was impresed with the systems he showed but was pleased with my QED.
Later, my cart on the thorens went wrong and I asked Naim dealer to fix it. He asked me to bring with the TT to his home my amp too in order to compare it to the Nait2. I did so, we played the song honesty by Billy Joel (I remember it so well) first we played withthe QED and then with a Nait2 (and ibl) - I jumped of muy chair. I was so surprised to find the difference especially in the dynamic department was realy a great difference.
Later I tried at home a NAit1 but I found that the NAit2 is better than the Nait1 - so in January 1991 I bought a Nait2 and started my "affairs" with Naim.
Because of the relatively hi prices of Naim equipment, I'd tried hard to listen to most of the important stereo dealers and stereo shops in Israel - but didn't find here any competition to Naim I also think Naim dealer in Israel is the best pro here in assembling the system.

I first heard of Naim in 1978 and finally a 32/160 the following year. It was quite obvious that this Naim amp completely destroyed the competition then available. This same dealer had previously said that the 250 was too "low-powered" for the price and had not brought one in. He then quickly changed his mind.

My first Naim experience was with a Naim Nait 1, that I bought s/h from one of the salesman that worked in my local dealers.

I still have that amp to this day (I've owned it for some 13-14 years). It's been serviced by Naim once during that time and now provides audio services to my PC - heresy in the eyes of many, I'm sure roll eyes .

I replaced it with a Nait 3 when swapping inputs became too much of a pain, and it will soon be replaced by Prefix / NAC112 / Flatcap / NAP150 as soon as my dealer gets his delivery.

Apart from a colleagues Exposure pre-power, I've never heard anything that comes close to the Naim kit musically - that Nait 1 was a super introduction to a lifetime of musical enjoyment.

Andy.

NAIT 1, bought 14 years ago from another forum member (Bob A.), who was upgrading. Still got it, far too attached to the little beast to sell.

Best;

more correct i guess, is naim/linn experience. system i had at the time - technics based, with spendor bc1 speakers.

place: sound org, london bridge. heard my own records on a lp12/asak-T/32.5/250/hicap/isobarik system in their reception area. stunned. was smitten there and then. so i lived on bread and water for a year to afford my own kan1 bases system with lp12/asak/32/250/hicap.

the rest, as they say, is history...

enjoy...

ken

ps: by the way, i do not believe any dealer i have tried since has come close to the service i used to get from the old sound org in cathedral street...

First heard Naim around 1988 when I was looking for a replacement for my 1974 Dynaco SCA80Q and thought I had found it in the Arcam Alpha (plus?). I spent a day listening to low-priced stuff with my wife, who pretty much hated evrything, including the Alpha.

Exasperated, I asked to hear the best in the room - it was a $2200 Naim system (42/SNAPS/110? - never asked, since it was way too expensive).) 'Ahhh,' she said, 'Now that's music.'

The next best sound came from a 'British' Fidelity A1 (Yup, the MF A1 in the US), which we bought. But I pretty much decided to get Naim someday, along with an LP12. It just sounded 'right'.

In late 1992 or early 1993 I came across a 62 (i.e 62 boards in a 42.5) and a 140 (which I later found to have been an upgraded 110) with bi-wired NACA4 and NACA5 and 3 DIN-RCA interconnects for $900 with a 7-day money back guarantee. I had the $900, so I bought the stuff. As much as I liked the A1, I liked the Naim better immediately. I even told my wife that I was done upgrading. (She laughed.)

I was happy with the 62/140 until Summer of 1995, whne I took a 72 home, against the salesman's advice - he said I wouldn't like it wo/hicap. He was right. I took it back. Joined the forum in 1996. Read paeans to the hicap. Listened. Bought.

The A1 went to my son (1995?); I think I made him pay for it. I sold the 62 to a guy in Canada when I found a fantastic deal on a 72/hicap (1996 or 1997?). The 140 went to my son as a gift (with strings attached for several months) when I got a 250 (1999). He still has it, though I suspect he'd like to upgrade.

Meanwhile, the 72 turned into an 82 (2/2000), one hi into 2 (8/2000), an Akito into an ARO (7/1999) (via an Ittok - 1997 or 1998), and my formerly beloved MM carts into a Karma (2000).

I no longer visit hifi stores. A used CDS or NAT02 might turn my head, but I suspect my next purchase will be a 52 - in a couple of years. I can hear my wife laughing now.
