I wish it was available on cd

(Thanks to John Gilleran for the thread idea.)

Have tried for years in vain to get "Atlanta Rhythm Section: Are You Ready?" on cd. Some were pressed in Japan, but they are apparently made of unobtainium, as I've never ever seen one offered for sale.

Bummah.

I'm sure there are plenty of long lost favorites that have never made it to "that shiny medium." Nominations?

Things have cheered up for me over the last year. I'm stocking up on Earth and Fire (no wind!) and Fruupp at the moment. History of the Bonzos and The Photos came as a nice surprise, as did ELO 1 and 2 (with BBC bonus material. Looks like I missed The Screaming Blue Messiahs and I'm certainly not paying the going rate for used copies. The other hole which will likely never be filled is the Passions' Thirty Thousand Feet Over China. Other than that I'm pretty well sorted.

Cheers

Whoa. Really? Could you provide a link? I didn't find it at Polydor's site, or at the "official" ARS site. Cool!

Amazon.com lists three copies available, but the asking prices start at ~$100. In my book (i.e. being the cheap bastard that I am), that's the same as being unavailable.

Shame. Sounds like an interesting album.

Thanks Martin D. I've just sent an email to Polydor. Fingers crossed...

I have 30000ft over China on CD (Polydor). It is an old release though. I also have a CD by the Passions which is a rehash of the 30000ft plus a few extra tracks but I can´t remember what it is called.
I´m currently working away, so I can´t give you further info.

Jay,

Thanks for the thread. I hope to get some more ideas on what to pick up on vinyl. I scored a copy of "Are You Ready" today from a record store I haven't visited in a year after doing a search on Gemm and finding they had a copy for $4.00. I always liked ARS and I'm surprised I never picked this one up, I really like live recordings.

Cheers,
John

nap-ster - I found thirty thousand on CD after a hunt around. As well as Polydor there was a re release on Great Expectations. They're worth quite a few quid.

Ah, cheers - the Spirit CD must have been re-issued recently, it was NLA last time I checked. I can't find the Peter Case CD available anywhere - it WAS released, but nobody has it now.

Going back to the thread title - I would like to get a copy of
"Oh What a Lovely War"
on CD preferably the stage version - but the film version would be OK - somewhere I have the LP and a cassette of the record - I must learn how to copy to the Apple and thence to a CD

OK let's go obscure...
from website I found:

"PHIL CORDELL- Pumping the water/Red Lady (USA Janus)1969.
Only issued in the states on a Chess Records subsidiary. Phil, ex-Thursdays Children, soon to record as Springwater, is best known amongst fans of late-60s British music for his beaty 'Goin', Goin', Gone'. On which he sings and drums. 'Red Lady' however is very different, superb folk-tinged electric sitar psych-pop, of the highest order, lots of very trip-tastic passages what sounds like a harp or svarmandal- "I can't think what's makin' this feelin' be / Sure ain't the 'tea' that'd inside o' me / And my ears' started singin'- / Red Lady you're just fine..." 'Red Lady' is to be included on the CD version of 'Fading Yellow'- HOORAH!!! "

Oh...and Rare Bird - Sympathy would be good to get hold of too.

HELLO!!!

The U.S. versions of the pre-Sgt. Pepper Beatles albums, in stereo.

Failing that, Jackson Heights and Bump'n'Grind, both by Jackson Heights; they were an early-70's offshoot of the Nice whose stock in trade was a kind of romantic, moody cafe pop, as much Beatles-influenced as prog. Crimso drummer Mike Giles played on the sessions, and singer John McBurnie later did sessions for Pat Moraz before forming his own group Vapour Trails (the one album they made, produced by Larry Carlton, you can actually get on CD from Warner Bros. Records in Japan), who were sort of Bee Gees meet Steely Dan; actually quite good. All these albums sold rather poorly; most people look at me blankly when I rave about 'em. Although I bet Nick Lees has the albums too.

The first two Flying Lizards albums have not yet made it onto CD, apart from some obscure Japanese pressings, and my life will be that much fuller when they do.

Result

Further to my earlier post I now have both the New Riders and Liverpool Scene items on BGO, and I see from their website they are releasing the two Chapman albums as a twofer - great news!

Still can't find the Wobble/Czukay/Edge EP however - does anyone know of a compilation that has these trax?

Cheers
