I've got a Creative Web Cam Live works very well. Mrs CP chats to her sister who lives in Florida, they also bought the same cam on our advice and the picture quality is excellent via messenger.
Then again it all depends what you want to use it for!! the quality isn't that good when the lights in the room are low
Regards

Philips Toucam Pro 2.
Excellent low light ability leaves everything else for dead. More fps (frames per second) than the competition makes for larger, smoother & brighter live on-screen video.
If your computer is tucked into a dark corner nothing else comes close.
It is also the camera of choice for webcam astronomy thanks to its sensitivity.

WebCam basics
In addition to the webcam, what else do I need to get up and running.
Dell Dimension XPSD266 Op sys Win95
One daughter lives in Canada another at Uni in Newcastle and they would both both like to see Mum as well as talk etc etc preferably all together....
Cheers

If you've got a digicam, I think some of them can be used for this?
Should give good results!
cheers, Martin

Don
Looking at your comment - it suggests a fairly recent machien to do a webcam justice. My Hp IS three/four years old (Windows 98, 266 thingy speed and so much memeory). Should I need to buy a new pc to do a decent webcam justice?

The Philips looks/sounds a good bet given the ps is in a dark corner.
Thanks

Mike,
My Dell is 7 years old. It has 192Mb Ram, 8Gb hard disc, 1Mb screen driver and runs on Windows 95. (I have tried Windows 98 and Me but I get problems with the Internet Explorer connection)
I have a Digital Camcorder, so as Martin suggests, I will try that before buying a webcam.
What I was unsure about, is what else do I need and how do I set things up to see/talk to my distant girls?
All advice gratefully received
Cheers

Sadly I have little knowledge when it comes to the world of computers.
We use Microsoft Messenger for video/voice calls although we prefer Skype the rest of our family won't change over from Messenger.
We are using a Logitech webcam although, despite using a broadband connection, the pictures are pretty hazy at best and as for motion...the pictures are dreadful.
I am wondering whether we will need to have a more recent machine in conjunction with a better webcam.
