Fake or genuine

Looking at getting hold of a second hand Rolex. Can any one tell me how you can check if it is genuine or one of the many fakes on the market.
Regards

hi
first find out the serial number from the seller it is engraved between the lugs at 6oclock then the model number engraved between the lugs at 12 oclock this should match the paperwork (no paperwork - forget it) use the rolex web site to ensure the model and serial numbers match and its not lost or stolen.
get the seller to remove the back or if he cant both of you go to a dealer.
there are so many good fakes out there now the only sure way to tell is if it has a rolex movement inside, fake even have the serial numbers engraved.
perhaps use one of the many second hand delears you will pay a bit more but only a fair market price.
ive just bought a nice datejust ss/gold 1981 from (explorer215 - on ebay he ususally has a few older rolexes)
hope this helps
