Good Dam DVD Player

All,

The new year came and my unidisk gave up the ghost, or in other words it went faulty. It is now back at linn for repair. I being a typical scot gave the shop hell poor blokes. Any way they have supplied me with a Meridian G98 Dvd player in the meantime, I tried one of these at the time I bought the linn machine.

So after living with the unidisk for the eight months I thought I would tell you all how I found the Meridian Machine.

First of all I have to say I think the look is very 80's listen to me going all vogue eh. Build wise as you would expect is of a very high standard.

Picture wise the machine has the DCDi board with an on board scaler and can accept a source been feed into it such as sat. Now in a straight picture wise fight the Meridian wipes the floor with the unidisk. No question the black is so black is hard to tell the difference with the bars at bottom and top of screen you get with widesreen. The progressive scan is very good and as said better to my eye than the linn.

Now the sound, Movie wise its a toughie they are both very good. hmm however I don't use a sub and the Meridian does seem to get that little more rumble, bass depth from my speakers.
CD sound in my system, you are left in no doubt the Linn is driving the system and to my taste it sounds spot on. The meridian however seems a little slow and laboured but there is more detail you simply here little things you hadn't noticed before.

Overall I guess it comes down to a recent post which do you love more music or movies its a hard one but the meridian is cheaper and if I had to do it all over again the choice would be tough. The only down side to the G98 is the cheap plastic drawer the metal and the smooth action that the unidisk drawer appears is class.
