New spur and earthing

Posted by: Arye_Gur on 09 January 2001

I want a separate spur for my system and already had talked with the electrician and lucky I read something very imporatnat here - all equipment connected to the Naim must have the same earth.
My system Lp12, CDI, flat/72/140, NAD tuner, Akai tape, Sansui dvd is sited near a wall connected to the wall.
A cable broadcasting is connected to the NAD tuner to feed the system on one side - and conected to the TV that stands on the other wall
to feed the picture.
The dvd is also connected to the second tape input of the 72 and to the TV to feed the picture.

I want a separate spur for the system but the TV that connected to the system via the cables and the dvd is on the other wall and connected to the house electricity.
Now everything is okay because the system is connected too to the house. The electrician told me himself that it is better to earth the system separately from the other house equipment.
Now I'm affraid that if I'll do it, the separate earthing of the TV and the system will couse me
troubles (hum or distortion or something like that.

What to do ?

Hi,

Check the mains lead from your TV you will probably find it has no earth connection (an oval lead) so you will not have a problem as the TV etc is earthed from the system. I have just added a DVD player to my system causing lots of fun making up a three headed SCART lead so I could get the sound from the TV DVD and Video through the HiFi (I only have one SCART socket on the TV) so I know it will work because that's how my system is wired, the HiFi on a spur and the TV DVD and Video on a ring main.

You are right !

The TV has no earthing and it gets it via the Naim stereo - so no problem at all.

Thanks,
