Hutter honeymoon over

Posted by: bob atherton on 27 January 2001

Well the honeymoon period is over & I thought I might post my longer term findings with Hutter tables.

I’ve lived with them for a few months now & as the time goes by I become less aware of them both visually & sonicly. My previous stands, indeed all others ( with the possible exception of Quadraspire ) that I have tried draw attention to themselves in a sonic signature sort of way. It’s like they are saying “ OK, I’ll show you what I can do, but you will also be aware that I am doing it” .

Hutter goes about it’s business in such a discreet & uncoloured way that I can see how one may start to be complacent about what they are doing.

My musical tastes are fairly broad & my collection goes back over 30 years. Of course some of the recordings are going to be technically better than others. Over the years I have noticed the tale tale sign that things are not quite what they should be when my record/CD selection is based on technical not musical merit. Well over the past months I have delved very deeply into the collection, indeed a very good sign.

When CD first came along I did not emotionally latch onto it’s presentation. A friend of mine at the time said he thought that as we hear in analogue, it made perfect sense to him that listening to something in digital would be alien. I feel the same about Hutter, IMHO it’s incredibly natural & if you like, analogue.

Of course electricity is rather inconsistent & there have been occasions when the system has not sounded it’s best. In the past I always had this nagging doubt that the stands had gone off song & would occasionally strip them down & re-tune. With the Hutter there is never any of that paranoia, I just think the electricity is a bit off & by the next days things are usually back to normal.

So to briefly sum up. Am I pleased with my choice of stand? Too damn right!

Bob,

You too have problems with electricity?

My lips are sealed !

Arie, It would seem that the power problem is global. Naim are still the best.

Enjoy the music,

Bob.

Anthony,

despite the headline, I read this posting as 'now they just do the job in an un-assuming way - I'm very happy'.

However, clarification would be nice.

cheers, Martin

Anthony

The honeymoon never seems to end only for immature little newlyweds who view the world through rose tinted glasses.

The rest of us grow up and become realistic in our views.

Hi Anthony,

To me there is a big difference between unassuming &" discreet & uncoloured". What I was trying to convey ( though I fear I made a bit of a hash of it ) was that with Hutter the stand issue is sorted, period.

If I want to upgrade it won't be any more or different stands, if the system is sounding a bit off one night, I won't feel that the stands contribute to this in any way.

A while back I went for a whole 7 years without a single upgrade. I would just put on the silver or black disc, enjoy the music, & not question the system.

I don't think I am quite at that stage again now, but I do feel this about Hutter. Get some Hutter and one has the stands sorted, that's how I feel.

A very happy, Bob.
