Here's one to kick off with.
Every Picture tell's a Story/ Rod Stewart.
For everyone that thinks he's a tosser including your's truly take a listen, you would not believe that the guy that knocked out all that rubish post 74 could sire this one.
All the best.

Agreed. The previous two, An Old Raincoat (called The Rod Stewart Album in the US) and Gasoline Alley, are also superb.

Never a Dull Moment is also superb, as is Atlantic Crossing. Every Picture and Never a Dull Moment were certainly not underrated in their time - both were massive hits, commercially and critically, and if I remember correctly he was the first person to have simultaneous single and album number ones in the UK and US with Maggie May and Every Picture Tells a Story.
Sadly he started to think he was sexy and the rest is history. He could have been one of the very best as he could not only write fabulous songs of his own but he could interpret classics wonderfully well.

Yes that's pretty good too but I don't think it's in the same class as his solo stuff from that time.

Oh I don't know - I thought the Faces were a pretty damn good backing band!
Shame about Ronnie Lane though....

Yes I liked the Faces too. I saw them in 1972 and they were excellent in concert. However I find his solo stuff from then to be a much more subtle, rounded mixture of rock and roll, blues, soul, and folk whereas the Faces had nothing like the same depth.

Not quite sure what you mean here. If you're referring to the MS and attendant woes, then it certainly was a shame. Ronnie was fantastic.

He died didn't he - it's always sad when someone dies.
(that was one of my more serious posts)

Tom not sure i agree on Atlantic crossing,
but what i mean is that it is underated today.

Yes, Faces are probably one of the "forgotten" bands. Acts that where big in there day, but nearly never mentioned today. Unlike, let's say, Deep Purple or Led Zep.
And 'Every Pic...' is good and seldom refered to today.

I bought The First Step only a couple of weeks ago. The Faces were a great band, shame Rod became such a tosser and did that awful Sailing thing, although I suppose we should really blame the Sutherland Bros for that.
Fisby - Don't post serious comments - it just confuses us (unless you were joking about being serious of course )

Lisa Marie Presley's album To Whom It May Concern was IMO one of the best albums for years, and I don't even like that sort of stuff normally - my missus bought it.

Blimey.

Slightly off thread here, but does anyone have a video of Rod Stewart doing Maggie May/Reason to believe on top of the pops..?
My father played violin on it and several other tracks, and I would love to get a copy of it for my mum and daughters (my dad died many years ago, so it would be a lovely thing to have).
Any costs etc would be covered...
Cheers,
Steve

I bought this at the weekend, on your say so, (well not completely your say so, I remember good reviews at the time, but I saw it cheap in Our Price and remembered your comment). I've not listened yet (I have approx 10-15 in my 'to listen to' stack) but i'll let you know what I think, though it has to be said I'm not completely in agreement with your musical taste generally!!

Try this. There's some Rod Stewart on Top of the Pops here.

The possibly self-titled album by Weekend (precursor to Working Week) is possibly underrated - in the sense that hardly anyone seems to have heard of it.
I can't say much about because I last heard it many years ago but I thought it deserved to be much better known, and would have got a copy if I had found one.

What about these:
Lauren Hoffman - Megiddo
You can listen to three of the songs on
her web site
Martin Stephenson - Beyond the Leap
I have listened to two of his other albums and didn't think much of them.

Which other Martin Stephenson albums have you heard? Beyond The Leap is up there with his best but there are a good 5 or 6 that are equal or better it. HIs first 2 with The Daintees - Boat To Bolivia and Gladsome, Humour & Blue are classic - of his more recent stuff get hold of Lilac Tree, Yogi In My House and The Church And The Mini-Disc if you can track 'em down.
Cheers

Rich,
Can't remember the names of the other Martin Stephenson albums I listened to. Thanks for the tips though, I'll look into those!
