Calling All CDS1 Owners

Posted by: John on 07 January 2001

I just recently purchased a CDS1 and was wondering what the sonic benefits are of upgrading to the new black burndy cord. It sounds like it is a good move but if someone could comment on the sonic benefits.

Thanks
John

John, my advice would be to upgrade. It made my system sound even better in the timing department and the slight harshness was also removed, making things sound fuller. Why not see if your dealer will lend you one for a day or two. When I plugged mine in the improvement was noticeable straight away, and it continued to improve as it burned in.
My other bit of advice is to take care of the transport, keeping it clean and using the two rubber puck for discs that slip will ensure a long life. As far as I know the CDM4 transport is not available anywhere.

Best wishes,

Mick

Consider it a no-brainer. Seriously, your heart will decide on the spot. To give you a little nibble of hi-fi, think improvements in Speed, Sweetness and Silence. For starters.

My ex-girlfriend said then that it sounds less like an audio cable and more like a tube that transmits music.

The next no-brainer is more expensive, and is called the Mana Reference. After that, the Mana Phase 4 for double the effect of the Ref. And another Mana support for the CDPS.

Some experience better results with other brands of racks. I have absolutely no idea on that but Mana for the CDS1.0 is the best way to go.

But start with the Burndy. wink

Thanks for your input. I have ordered a black burndy as I think it will improve the fullness of sound. I am not really interested in upgrading to the CDS2. I have auditioned it and wasn't 100% satisfied with the music picture. I was put off with the pacing and lack of slam. The CDS1 seems to have a similar timing and attack as the CDX with CDS2's analogue feel. The CDS1 also has a wider range of emotion in the music than the CDX. Win Win in my books!

I read the thread about massaging the new burndy. Can anyone at Naim comment that this will not damage the cable.
