There used to be a fantastic one just round the corner from Betty's - on the left as you're facing Betty's.
I found an original copy of Wire's 'Pink FLag' there and masses of other stuff, all at charity shop prices. This was about six years ago though....

Not sure about Harrogate, it's a fairly small and conservative place (in both senses). Leeds and York are close by and both offer serious opportunities for retail therapy including excellent Naim dealers.

Has Mix Music gone now? Used to be down near the theatre. They had a branch in Skipton which was very helpful, shut here though.

The two nearest new Vinyl stockists are Track Records in York and Jumbo Records in Leeds.

Whilst Harrogate is a great place to live, I'm afraid the music shop selection is not great unless you are looking for classical exclusively, in which case there are 2 good shops.
For "popular" music, Mix Music is just along from the Theatre, towards the Halifax Bank. Not a huge selection, and not cheap - around £13 normally for a CD - but the guys are generally quite friendly and knowledgable.
I tend to go into Leeds, where there is a large HMV, and Virgin megastore, plus several decent second hand shops stocking vinyl and CD. My favourite place however is Borders, with a good selection of CD's, with several listening booths, plus dvd's, books etc, and a Starbucks on site.

Jumbo Records are here. Virgin is in Albion St., Borders in Briggate, and HMV is on Lands Lane (their website is wrong ) - all 3 streets are on the other side of the Headrow from Jumbo.
