What was your last Music DVD purchase?
Posted by: Not For Me on 21 May 2004
I thought a new thread was needed.
My last music DVD was:
Fischerspooner - DVD #1
With all of #1, all the videos, a documentary, artwork, and aboout a dozen remixes of Emerge, 15th, Invisible etc.
Nice!
ITC - Ian Smagghe - Suck my Decks

Nick ol' bean,
Finally we can agree on some hippy shtuff. Though I fell asleep when my older sister dragged me to a concert.

Eric/Ludwig - I feel like I've missed an interesting chapter in a really boring book. Can you (or anyone) explain to me why an assortment of forum old-timers felt the need to rebadge themselves ?

Minky lil' buddy,
Personally my change had nothing to do with a trend. I felt it would be more personable if I used my first name. This was the first forum in which I ever participated, so at first I was nervous about revealing personal info.
Erik
PS- Did you ever take my Brazilian music advice in that one thread long, long ago?

Definitely Maybe, Oasis
Live Forever, the Britpop documentary;
favourite bit: the interviewer asks Liam what the song "Live Forever" is about; quote Liam, incredulously, "It's about a bloke who wants to live forever!"

Bill Deasy "Live ClubCafe"
Excellent. A relatively intimate club show in Pittsburgh Pennsylvania in the summer of 2003. No fancy camera manueverings, just simple "concert" shots and excellent recording. Like being there (which, for me, is the best kind of DVD). Bill continues to amaze me on further listenings. And at this show, his current band was augmented by Rob James, of The Clarks. Rob is a very very tasty guitar player and the chemistry between he and Bill and the incredible music they make together makes this a DVD that will be seeing very regular usage chez Anderson. Recommended highly. www.billdeasy.com

wow - someone mentioned the Rez on the Naim forum - now that is an occasion for a large glass of port!!!
as well as the commercial album I would also add the recently remastered Grateful Dead Movie, indeed if I could keep only one music DVD this would be it and along with this is the accompanying [much enlarged c/w with the DVD] soundtrack 5CD set, which already is stakung a claim as possibly the last cd/record I would ever part with [even if the copy of eyes of the world on the soundtrack is edited, the original remaining on the SMR set].
just had to enthuse!

Rush Live in Rio excellent, energetic and enthusiastic audience gives great atmosphere almost like being there.
Well I've got so say I total disagree with BigH47. I got this last weekend I have to say it's a huge disappointment, this is mainly due to the sound quality which is very poor. Geddy's vocals are buried so deep in the mix as to be almost indecipherable and the instruments are hardly distinguishable in the impenetrable drone.
I agree the crowd is energetic and enthusiastic, but in many cases they are more audible than the band.

I saw the documentary on Brian Wilson last night (Imagine) and it showed clips from the "Smile" concert.
I hope it makes it's way to DVD soon and we don't have to wait another 40 years...............

I just finished watching the 'Fly Jefferson Airplane' DVD for the 3rd time this week - wasn't anticipating much when I picked it up but it's superb - some friends who aren't even into the 60's scene watched it with me and immediately went out & bought Surrealistic Pillow!
It's got some fantastic live performances and early promo films intercut with modern day interviews with all the band - very nicely done!

'U2 - Go Home: Live From Slane Castle'
and
'James - Getting Away With It...Live'
Have since bought the cd of the James concert as I feel it's their finest, and final, performance...faulty equipment and all.
U2, well, an emotional concert - Bono had buried his father a few weeks before it - and a collection of new and old classics. Nuff said.

Sarah McLachlan - Afterglow Live. Combination set of CD and DVD. The DVD video is good, the sound is good, the performance typical Sarah. Slight apparent problem with sound and sync with video, but good none-the-less.

Phil Collins - First Final Farewell Tour, for the wife. Don't think I'll watch it,it was bad enough seeing it live.

Pearl Jam - "Single Video Theory"
shot at the sessions for the "Yield" album.
A kinder, gentler kind of PJ.
John Mayer - "Any Given Thursday"
I have been enjoying the double cd of this show and wanted the video (especially of "Covered In Rain"). I know JM is not held in high regard here in the Music Room (maybe only Sting is lower), but I have become a fan (especially of his guitar playing). Recommended - if you dare.

Elvis: 68 Comeback Special deluxe 3-disc set. Absolutely sensational!
Roger Waters: The Wall live in Berlin Incredible sound quality, but well, it wasn't very good, was it? I remember going to the gig itself, and it was a nightmarish mess - all cranes and malfunctioning sound systems and lots of dust; the trip there and back was much better than the concert!

Xmas Pressies.
Live Aid. - A pretty good reminder for those there, or who fondly remember the day. There are unfortunately a number of performances missing (lost) and some of the performances and concert sound quality is a bit ropey.
Many of the performances are pretty poor in all honesty (Beach Boys, Madonna), in fact most of the USA concert is pretty poor.
There are some good performaces in the Uk, but noone even comes close to Queen who are the only band to sound good, perform well, be tight and together, Dynamic and connect with the crowd.
Stevie Vai - At the Astoria
G3 - Live
Not watched these yet.

Greeny,
I bought Live Aid myself and have to admit that some of the recording is very bad and lost, but in the booklet it does tell you that they had done their best.
It is good though. I was only 8 when the actual concert was on so I couldn't really remember it at all. I have to say that it was and still is quite remarkable.
Like you said though, the Queen show is excellent, mind you, the Dire Straits show is very good too.
Paul.
