environmental charges

When you take your car or motorcycle to a garage for a service you will pay for your old oil to be disposed of-I think the charge is about £3-£5 plus VAT.I assume tha the oil is put into a barrel which, when full is worth $40.Am I missing something?Cheers Tony

Er, yes you are missing something. I don't think dirty oil is worth $40 a barrel. I don't think it's worth anything. I'm not sure what they actaully do with it but It may be able to be processed to produce something useful (or burned) but either way It aint just useable.
