Compilations

Posted by: garyi on 30 April 2004

Well after weeks of importing CDs onto the mac I am able to come up with statistics! So far I have 102 albums which are in fact compilations.

Compilations seem to be the twisted ignored love chiled of 'proper albums' and are frequently dismissed by the music purchaser.

However there are some good comps' here, of which I think my favorites are Fila Brazillia's 'Another late night' and 'Another fine mess'

Whats your favorite compilations, or specifically what compilations have you bought which made you go out and buy more music from that compilation?

Various Artists - Schafelfieber II !

I got Vol. I and then dozens of releases on the Kompakt label and others from all the artists involved! Listened to it again today.

I can't buy compilations because of the "out of context" issue. The only ones I have are dance, like Gatecrasher, Gods Kitchen etc, which I play during the day non-stop. I have one called Breakdown and although there is singing Eek on it, I think it's one of my best. Sasha is always up my tree too.

Hi,
If I want to listen to some thing smoothy but dancy I put 'communicate' on by Sasha and Digweed... Its obviously been mixed on turntables due to the crackling etc but still sounds OK.
Another fav is the original 'Northern exposure' by the same combo - something strange about a dance compilation starting off with Richard Attenborough describing the northern lights on it!

I don't have many other compilations other than what would broadly be described as dance one's.

For fans of American electric blues, both the Blind Pig Records and Alligator Records "Anniversary" comp series' are awesome.

The interest in comps caused me to look at my rack of them.

Today I am doing The Wife's book keeping, and needed some mellow tones to help, so picked out :

Creation Records - Keeping the Faith

With Fluke, MBV, Primal Scream and others it was a real blast from the beginnings of Indie Dance. Recommended.

'All Oar Nothing' an early compilation from Twisted Nerve.

Luckily it made me got out and buy Badly Drawn Boy's first and subsequent singles which are now worth their weight in gold and also some less well known stuff by Andy Votel (strange and fantastic) and Dave Tyack (just strange).
