Robbert asked:
lets see. I would call it controlled speed. It is the "P" part of the famous Naim PRaT (Pace, rythum and timing).
regards
Geoff

When I went to Peter Stockwell's place in Paris a little more than two years ago he was using Vibrapods.
Before retiring to my bed I dared suggest that he remove them altogether from his system.
The next morning I awoke and ventured into his listening room to find him a rather happy chappy because he'd acted upon my slightly drunken throwaway comment from the night before. The Vibrapods were gone and what was left was music with better tune, inflection, and sharper focus, as well as a tighter bass.
Ok, the soundstage had shrunk quite a bit but what was left of it was more believable.
Regards,
Steve.

They make everything sound bigger, but at the expense of control. The soundstage can be retrieved by fiddling with speaker placement.

But was it such a great loss?
To my ears it certainly wasn't.
I don't recall you fiddling with speaker placement thereafter.

Steve.

Great loss ?
hard to say, I don't remember that far back with any accuracy. I had fiddled with the speaker position before I removed the Virbrapods to reduce boominess. Taking the vibrapods out eliminated the boominess and putting the speakers back to the original position gave me back the soundstage.

In my system four of them used in conjunction with a 3/4 inch MDF platform (painted black) made a nice and quite cheap improvment to my CDX.

It's been my experience with MDF and vibrapods that they will both increase bass weight, but at the cost of lost coherance with the mid range and treble. In short that the tune goes to hell. However I've never used the two, apart or together, in conjunction with a Naim CD player.

I am using four 'focul pods' placed under my equipment that is sitting on a 'Atacama' soundstage, that uses focul pods as well. The effects are quite amazing especially under my pre amp. Much listening has resulted in this set up being used under every piece in my system! and not only mine as several friends are investing in them as well. Not too expensive this in that the Atacama costs c£35-00 and a set of pods c£17-00. The benifits are awesome, but who am I to tell you what they are, try it yourself and you too will be amazed.
